so i have been trying ti get parameters up in a nice slow fashion. have very few corals right now. Ca and alk have beem ok but a tad high for months now. i am switching over from rscp to blue bucket.

ok so was dosing about 150 ml/day of mg. yesterday Mg was at 1260. Trying to get to 1280 for the red sea system numbers. So i took Mg offline since was going to slowly increase spec grav a tiny bit bc just got calibration solution for refractometer. My trident also meed new reagents so switched them out but not till around 6:30pm. what is going on? quickly Mg dropped back down to 1230 and Ca spiked to 550?? what the heck?

What your experiencing is most likely false readings due to low regents in trident. This has happened to me. After replacing them Give it a day or 2 and it will even out I’m sure.

Magnesium cannot drop more than 1-2 ppm in a day except by salinity changes or water changes.

None of the values you show are a substantial problem. I'd just monitor for a while.

additional info: i just picked up calib fluid (35ppt) for my refractometer. accordung to that (and conductivity probe) i have been running tank at ~33ppt for months on end. i always believed my rodi zero on refract over probe. So now according to 35ppt calibrated refractometer AND Cond apex probe i am moving salinity up. I just put hose for ATO into my AWC bucket. figured that will raise it slow over time. So there is some salinity change over last 24hrs but VERY negligible.

dang apex with the missung label on calib fluid.
I did let Ca reagent run till yest it said replace. then boom all these readings. i am burning thru these new reagents just tioget a handle on it. from this point fwd i am replacing at 10%. this is crazy. i dint know whether to believe the Mg level and resume dosing or not. would like ti be above 1280.

I have to replace my regents at 15-18 most the time. Yes seems like a waste but I’d rather waste a little regents and have the proper readings then worrie about wrong readings cause I run trident dry.
