Hi everyone, I am new to the hobby and just joined this group. Any advice to the following issue?
I just bought a frogspawn and a hammer coral from a LFS. They were fine in the first couple days. Then the polys started to fell from one branch, then from another (see pictures attached). Now they both have only the calcified body left. Other old frogspawn and hammer corals in the tank are fine.
Placement: mid level of my 90g tank
PH 8.2
Salinity 1.026
Mg 1300
Cal 450
Phosphate 0.03
Nitrate about 20
Tem 78
Can anyone advise me what is going on for the corals?
Can polys be regrowing from the skeletons?

Thanks!

Did they have any brown sludge on them the last few days?

I don't think they can regrow from that state, but I might be wrong.

I have read that they can start a new head from the side of the skeletal when all of the parameters are stabilized but not from the original heads and it takes a long time.

Looks like polyp bail out to me honestly, I say this because of the hammer seems like the flesh band is super receded and about to “pop” off. Are you sure you bought a healthy piece?
Also, just making since it’s not up there. What’s your alk at?

No brown sludge on them. But I saw brown stripes on the bottom of the tissue when it peeled off.

They looked "healthy" when I bought them. But I may be wrong. I am new to the hobby so I would like to how to select a healthy coral. Appreciate any advice....

So parms if accurate are pretty decent IMO. From what I’ve learned with euphyllia, look at the flesh band. It should be going down the stalk a decent amount. I’m super surprised I don’t have a picture right now but I’ll try to get one tomorrow just as an example. Also there should not be any exposed skeleton. I’ve been lucky to not encounter BJD so I can’t really comment on that. But always look for
Full polyp extension
Healthy flesh band

hope this helps

My hammer is currently splitting so the flesh band is moving even further down the actual skeleton. It’s normal for them to be slightly deflated while they split but I attached a picture from about a month ago so you can see how it looks like under regular conditions

True. My hammer is doing this right now
