Help to save powder tang from ich!

I had ich on all my fish this month. Usually I treat them with mix of Kanaplex and Metroplex. Plus sand cleaning twice a week. After a week all fish were spotless, but not this guy. Yesterday he started feel worse so I bought 10gal tank, filled it with fresh salt water, with Primo and Stability. Then add copper and transferred him there. Today he looks and feels much worse. He doesn’t eat at all and this disgusting things multiply. Is there a way to save him? Thank you.

You used the wrong medicatins which as you see did not help and this fish has severe ich and may or may not recover.
Did you add cupramine or Coppersafe? What level do you have your copper product at and how are you testing the level?

I used Cupromine, that seller in store recommended after I showed him video. 20 drops for 10 gal. I didn’t know I should test it. I thought I should just add med according to instructions.

Maybe take a read through this thread. A proper QT running copper has guidelines that need to be followed for it to be effective. The display will also have to be treated or run fallow or the disease will remain and just reinfect the fish. Your other fish may have resistance. Powder browns and blues have earned the name ich magnets because it's true IME.

I gave up on powder tangs several years ago. I have 11 tangs but no powder blue or brown. I like the more peaceful tangs anyways that don't pace back and forth all day.

My husband insists on having one because he likes their look

Unfortunately copper doesn’t kill ich during that stage in their life cycle. If your fish survives the infection the copper will kill free swimmers before they can reattach. Hopefully he is strong enough and has the gill capacity to hold out until those parasites can drop off. I’m so sorry you have to see your fish like this.

Please do not go by drops as this can be overdosed and recommended to dose at .45 monitored with a Hanna brand test kit. You have to consider useable gallons and not Total vlume

6 powders along side another 7 other tangs. As long as you properly QT them, you will have success! Non of my fish have anything on them. At one point had them in a 60 breeder for QT. Then 150g system for observation, and now in my 300g.

People do not QT properly. Keep the DT fallow for the correct period and method. Have distance between QT tanks and DT or a whole separate room. All tools used for WC’s and feeding need to be at the QT station never near the DT. So cross contamination takes place. Not many that know that you just QT everything that goes into your DT. Yes even corals. Not with copper, but fallow tank. I’m at the point now where I’m not putting anything without QT or running fallow. Do these things and you can have an all powder tang tank! I call mine Tang Nation

If it survives is one of the nastiest of tangs and will be your nightmare. I tried 4 different ones and new , Never again. I now have over 30 tangs and like the lack of drama from one sole nightmare fish

Thank you for this new information. He is not eating, I’m afraid he wouldn’t be able to survive without food.

I had him for almost a half year, he is not new :( and he had ich once but it went away after I fed them medicine. Not this time:(

That's a very severe case of ich. The trouble is, copper takes 3 to 5 days to work, and this fish may not have that much time left. I think the best you can do is continue with the cupramine at 0.50 ppm, and hope for the best. Watch any other fish that this one was in with, they have been exposed and will probably develop symptoms as well.
