I have these two valves on my Red Sea Max S400. One of them is open and the other is closed.

I want to close the open one, so I shut off the water and tried to turn it, but it is resisting quite a bit. It looks like you may need to pull it out and then turn it? Or...?

What kind of valves are these and how do I operate them! Silly question I know, but..

Thanks. I took it apart, and now I see why it's called a ball valve.

Cleaned and it's working fine now...
