I have a 75 gallon tank coming soon and I want to keep a mixed/sps-dominant reef and I want people to give their opinions on my current powerhead selection.

I want to have two gyre's on the back wall, probably Maxspect Jump's as well as a powerhead on one side wall, either an mp40 or a Nero. Would that provide the right type of flow for my SPS and my lps as well as softies (Zoanthids mostly). I have decided one this arrangement because one side panel of the tank will be pretty close to a wall and therefore won't be looked at that much while the other faces the main hallway in our house and any powerhead places there would be very visible.

Does anyone have experience with this kind of setup or know what kinds of flow would be generated and how that would affect different kinds of corals? thanks

Blasting too much flow from the back can cause a pretty massive sand storm when it crashes down the front glass. If you're going to have sand, I'd recommend mounting one lower in the tank and aiming it more upwards but you risk the same thing with water splashing up to the top. I'd say one on the side, 1 on the back and really play with placement and direction of flow.

So you're saying that I should only have the two gyres and have one on the side panel and one on the back wall?

I tried the gyre on my 90. Ended up putting 2 OCTO pulse 2 on back wall and OCTO 4 on sides controlled by a hydros controller.

I'm saying I'd only put one on the back wall and really play with it. If you feel you need more flow, you'll want it running mostly the length of the tank, not front to back unless it's a bare bottom tank.

You can add a second on the side of more flow is needed.

bump again! Does anyone have experience with this kind of setup? I would like to know how the different kinds of flow will interact with themselves and the corals in the tank and if I should design my rockwork in a specific way in order to accommodate this. Any information is appreciated! Thanks
