I need some help determining which return pumps to go with.

Display is 262 gallons, frag tank will be 40 gallons.

I will be running 2 return pumps with 2 separate 1 inch pvc runs going to the display as well as reducing down to 3/4 and going to a remote frag tank (8 foot horizontal run).

Each run will have 4 elbows on the 1 inch pipe and a couple elbows on the 3/4 pipe.

Vertical run - 6 feet per run

Which pump should I choose and will it be sufficient if my goal is around 1000 gph to the display and 150 gph or so to the frag tank?

Pump choices are -

DCP-10000 (2640 gph)

DCP-13000 (3645 gph)

I would always pick the bigger dc pump and dial down. Its almost impossible to measure exactly the flow needed before adding a pump to a system.

I think 1 inch pipe at around 50 psi is 2200 gph and 2 inch is 7600 gph.

I run the DCP10k at lowest setting on my 65 with 1” pipe and split into two 3/4” returns. Probably 5’ of head pressure. I only have the 10k because it was cheaper than a smaller model at the time of purchase. Been running two years service free and problem free in saltwater. Hopefully I’ll get a few more years out of it.

It can still crank quite a bit of water when I turn it all the way up. Two of these should be sufficient for what you want so long as you’re not relying solely on return pumps for your tank turnover.

Thanks for the insight. :)

Yeah, I wish I could fit 2 of the DCP13000, but I think 2 of the DCP10000 will be a better fit.

It probably wouldn’t be a good thing anyway because the return section water would be practically all displaced by those 2 huge pumps. Seems like this would cause my ATO to kick on way more frequently.

Shame you can't fit thre larger pump.
I have a 15000 and a 10000 DCP. 15000 for my return and 10000 for manifold.

My return section is 8.75″ x 17.5″.

Do you think 2 of the 15000 would fit?

Nope :(
The 15000 is a large pump. It's just slightly smaller than the 20000 but it's larger than the 10000.

I was able to fit one 15000 and one 10000 in my sump but I had to remove both intake screens.
