Help with Triton Results

Hi Guys,

I've been having some issues with random corals dying (lost a couple smaller scoly's, zoas etc.) that typically had been thriving so I wanted to send off for a Triton test. Looks like I have a few issues and wanted to see if you guys could help me. I haven't lost any fish at all, just corals

Trition Help shows:

We detected elements in your water that can be harmful for your tank.
High levels of Tin have been found in your system.
Your Calcium levels are slightly low.
Your Bromine levels are slightly low.
Your Lithium levels are slightly elevated.
Your Molybdenum levels are too high. This can lead to severe bacterial growth (Cyano, etc.).
Your Vanadium levels are too high.

About my tank: I use Red Sea Coral Pro Salt, I dose 4ml of nopox daily, and I use around 4ml of Red Sea Reef Energy daily, also feed other coral foods weekly such as Coral Frenzy, Reef-Roids, Reef Chili once a week. I was dosing 3 drops of lugi's iodine weekly but I quit that a couple weeks ago.

For fish food I typically use Rods, LRS, and PEMysis...along with some spectrum pellets.

I do 10G water changes weekly, using a spectrapure RODI (filters are currently around 3mo old). I run a RLSS DB6i skimmer and change filter socks weekly.

I noticed on the Vanadium it talks about ceramic products. I do have three alternate reef sheves in my aquarium with a couple other ceramics rocks that i use for grow outs on zoas.

As far as algae growth I've started to get some GHA recently, but I haven't had cyano in months.

I also run BRS Rox .8 Carbon around 5-6hrs a day....I rinse it with 5 gallons of water before using it.

Some of their comments are ridiculous. Calcium at 425 ppm is not low. lol

I don't see anything there that would kill corals but the tin is my biggest concern. It can come from metal parts,

Yea i kinda ignored that but posted all their comments.

The three things that I was looking at is Tin, Vanadium and Molybdenum....still need to research the last two. I'm not sure where the tin is coming from....the only type of metal stuff in the water is magnets, 2x mp40 wet sides, and my skimmer/return pumps.

I picked up some poly-filter at lunch and placed it in my sump already.

Are you using refugium mud? I've read that they usually ask people to remove that cause it tends to have metals.

Nope, no refugium at all. Funny enough I've been thinking about adding one or a algae scrubber.

These are my comments on my molybdenum and vanadium results, which were low:

Molybdenum (Mo). Molybdenum is low, and if that is true, it’s an interesting and potentially important result. I don’t typically add any trace elements. I may consider adding some molybdenum as it is biologically important.

Vanadium (V). Triton can just barely detect the natural level of vanadium (1.8 µg/L) since their LOD is 0.9 µg/L. Still, detecting none suggests it may be depleted, and is another possibility for dosing.

Thanks Randy,

I had actually read that article last night after I posted. Do you think I should even bother with trying to figure out Mo, and V?

As far as the Sn goes is it even used in magnets? I'm kinda at a loss on on where it is coming from in my tank unless it's used in magnets, or from my alage scrapper (AlgaeFree Hammerhead). I don't think that my levels are high enough for me to try Tritons Panta Rhei Panta Lith product to remove the unwanted metals...I'm thinking of doing 20G water changes weekly over my 10G ones (90 gallon tank) and retest again in a month or two.
