After blowing over 10k, I'm sure you would be done too.

I'm sure there are plenty of people on here that have and then some. Even those people have had a tank crash. If you've come this far do you really want to throw in the towel or do you want to try and turn it around?

Your equipment still works. Your money is not blown. There are people that have lost that kind of money in livestock who are unable to get anything back. People on this board will help you get where you want to be if you are willing.

A good cleaning would be all it should need. Then of course gravel. Remove protien skimmer. As far as I know all else can be used in a fresh system.

Again, it sucks that you had a poor experience and I'm sure that is disheartening, but this is a real hobby that takes a large amount of research, learning and dedication to be successful.
You can't just spend a fat wad of money and expect it to go well because you spent a fat wad of money.
You joined the forum less than a week ago but have had the tank running for over a year.
Are you a member of any other forums? Did you rely solely on your LFS without doing your own homework?
Unfortunately your story is far too common. Getting into the hobby without realizing what's truly involved. I wish more LFS would try to educate their customers, even if it's just pointing them to places like this before they get started.
IMO you are either heavily involved, or you rely solely on a setup and maintenance company that comes by the house at least once a week.
There is no in-between.

As far as I have read you have not taken a single piece of advice offered in this thread. I would just get rid of the tank because odds are you won't be happy with the freshwater tank. Oh and do your own due diligence. That's why you got fleeced by your lfs, in an age of smart phones there is no excuse.

If your really a into cars than you know that while some fixes/upgrades are easier than others, a few takes a bit of patience to get something zeroed in. Now imagine working and fixing things in your aquarium like you would getting ready for a race or working on your car. You gotta take your time and focus on 1 thing before moving on to the next.

Btw just because your disabled doesn't let you off the hook unless that disability totally prevents you from doing ;) I'm a maintenance guy for 8 homes for people with brain injuries and disabilities.

No, this was a brand new car ordered to specs with full extended warranty and full support if anything goes wrong. The only patience required was waiting for the car to be built and shipped. Not the case with LFS and the multitude of people who only see dollar signs.

Most people just thrown down a big wad of cash for the car (or a big fat loan) and then enjoy it.
I think that's what the OP expected with his tank.
Only the real enthusiasts will do what you describe.

Broke my neck, very limited use of my hands and can't lift anything heavy so it makes this hobby unsustainable by myself. Many people have offered to service my tank but, they would either put me off weeks at a time which allowed my tank to get away from me.

Ouch, sorry to hear this. I could see the heavy part, as we have some people that do good to hold a drink in a cup.

Ever thought about going smaller to make things easier? A 40g -55g would be much less hassle concerning water changes.
