hermit crab eating candy cane?

I have a hermit crab that seems to be in love with one of my candy canes. I took it off when day and moved it to only find it back on it a few hrs later. It seems like it is eating as of this morning it looks like some of the skeleton is showing on the cane. Does anybody know will hermit crabs eat them?

Thats why you don't keep hermits, you never know when they will go overboard and eat your corals.
