I’m Skyler, and I’ve been in the hobby for a little over a year. I started with a 29-gallon and some hand-me-downs from a friend. I’m by no means an expert, but I’ve definitely made just about every beginner mistake along the way. For example, I tried dosing ammonia to cycle my first tank without realizing it had surfactants in it (which made the cycle drag on forever). I’ve even added nems right after cycling—only to have them melt a few days later because my parameters weren’t stable.

These days I’m running a 65-gallon with a sump I built out of a 20-long. I also work at my LFS, which has really grown my love for fishkeeping. Not sure if turning a hobby into a career is the smartest move, but it’s definitely fun—just a little ironic having to clean tanks all day at work, then come home and clean mine too.

Thanks for reading, and I’m glad to be here
