Hi guys,

Yes, I'm from one of the countries where the powder-blue tang comes from!

Im planning to build a 20G reef tank, and I have learned the basics. I have a quick question, I cannot find ammonium chloride but I was able to get nitrifying bacteria. I'd like to know if I can ghost-feed and add the nitrifying bacteria. and when should i add the nitrifying bacteria?

Yes you can ghost feed.
Pee has ammonia in it regardless of the animal it comes from.
Just saying that to say it.
Add bacteria to a high flow area so it gets a chance to colonize all surfaces.

You could cycle your tank using a dead shrimp . Throw it in the tank and add you bacteria. I’ve done that with much success. Good luck .
You will need a much bigger tank than a 20 gallon for that powder blue tang

Welcome! You can add bacteria pretty fast, right away or a week in a a good start. I microdose my tanks with it when I start them for about a month or two.

Are you able to get live rock locally? That would be much better than bottled bacteria.

We’re to my knowledge getting mostly South Africa species
