Hip hop heads unite!

Do we have many hip hop fans hear at R2R? Rappers, DJs, b-boys, graffiti artists, producers? Or maybe you just love the music as much as I do?
I think it would be pretty cool to get us all together on a single thread and discuss the thing we love most (besides reefing of course), hip hop culture! Maybe share some ideas as we go too.
All love, no hate of course. We all love something different about the culture and music, so I think it's important not to get too caught up about different perspectives here. We all know how passionate and heated discussions of this nature can get!
So R2R, what hip hop knowledge can you blow my mind with?

I went to by last year and so epmd Redman Keith Murray Das efx k solo method man. So yea I do as long as we're talking 90s to early 2000

EPMD would have been awesome live. I saw Redman and Method Man in Sydney five or six years ago with Dilated Peoples and Roots Manuva.
Was a great night! I was right up the front at Redman and Method Man and they performed Brooklyn Zoo as a tribute to ODB.
I typically don't like any of the newer stuff either, especially the stuff you might hear on the radio, but there is some gold amongst the trash!

I'm a huge hip hop fan. It ain't like it used to be, though. I can't believe the tragic stuff people listen to now. Some of my fav's: Jedi Mind Tricks, MOP, Mobb Deep, Common, Mos Def, Tribe, and of course Wu Tang. I was back stage with Wu 3 times before ODB died. Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, Grieves and all those cats are pretty dope too. I spun break beats back in the day before CDJ's became popular. I was really inspired by the X-Ecutioners. I got to see Rob Swift last year and saw Roc Raida before he died.

Growing up as a teenager I was a b boy and was totally emerse in hip hop culture.
I hung out with graffiti writers Dj rappers so on so forth .
Hip hop has def influenced my life in manny ways.
I have several fish named after some of my favorite rappers .
My blood red shrimp is named the game.
I have a big clown named biggie.
If I had a tang I would name it wu .
I recorded music for many year in my twenties and I had a chance to work with many rappers like trick daddy t pain pitbull ect..

I agree with Eric about how most of the mainstream rappers these days lack in creativity and lyrical content, but there are still some young guys like Kendrick Lamar and j cole Ect ... That push the culture forward.

Nice! I knew I wasn't the only hip hop lover here :)
I'm a huge JMT fan. Stoupe is one of my all time favourite producers and Vinnie blows my mind with everything he says. Immortal Technique, Diabolic, Atmosphere, R.A. The Rugged Man, Wu-Tang, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, Chali 2na, Ill Bill, Big Pun. I could go on forever here.
I've been a graffiti writer since I was 14 and used to breakdance for a few years. I never had the upper body strength to learn any power moves though.
I write my own music and produce a little here and there too.

Did anyone hear the Fighting Words album by Diabolic yet?

I'm a early 90s to early 2000. Das efx red man epmd wu tang. Shane the entire boot camp click. Artifacts tribe called quest mob deep and most of Queens hip hop. Huge fan of Queens and new jersey rappers. The newest artist I like are ti and young jeezy. After that I don't like anyone

I've heard a little bit of Apathy through Army Of The Pharaohs and Demigodz. He's a very talented guy. It sucks living so far away, it means I'll probably never see these guys live.
I'm still interested to know if anyone has heard Fighting Words by Diabolic yet!

He's definitely worth checking out. I like his first album Liar And A Thief more than his second album Fighting Words. I'm still undecided about F.W.
If your an Immortal Technique fan you may remember Diabolic from the hidden track on Revolutionary Vol. 1 following Dance With The Devil.
That's awesome! I never knew anyone famous personally. I knew some guys who had local fame quite well, but no one beyond that. I reckon those DG and AOTP guys would be awesome to hang out with.

As I mentioned before Army Of The Pharaohs and the Demigodz. Hilltop Hoods old stuff was amazing (Aussie group). Bliss N Eso (another Aussie group). Melle Mel and The Furious Five. Bone Thugs. Deltron. Cypress Hill. Certified Wise (Aussie again). Tribe. Gang Starr :)
