Hello, my hippo tang is acting odd again he is scratching on his sides with slightly elevated breathing. Other than the scratches I don’t see much of a difference in his skin no white dots that really stand out other than near the abrasion. He is still swimming and eating normally he just has more damage than he normally has from going in and out of the rocks. My tank has always run super high phosphates and I am bringing them down with a gfo reactor could that be causing the irritation? I would think it would help him.

Seems like the rash is from injury or scratching and may be skin irritation or flukes. Prazi pro is recommended if you see continued itching

I was thinking prazipo I have red planaria flatworms they aren’t in the out of control stages that I can tell not on sand bed but I see them here and there on rocks I just did a good clean up of the ones I’ve seen. Can I dose prazi or flatworm exit in my Dt and get both at once or would that be a bad idea? I know I need a water change and carbon for the flatworm exit but could I just do prazi and do the same thing?

No flatworm exit at this time and do not mix both

Ok thank you! I have a 2006 zo6 callaway and my dad has a 89 coupe and 03 50th convertible so we are also vette guys 😁

My yellow wrasse is always bulging stomach I see him on the rocks a lot and I know he eats bristle worms I’ve just never seen him directly eat a flatworm but I’m fairly confident he does from time to time.

Ok so I did my first does prazi I have a airstone going skimmers with no cup and turned up surface agitation. My tang has some like clear blotches hanging off him now, that I’d assume are the flukes? How long do they take to fall off? I thought it was more almost instant but looking it up it could take a little bit?

Not always do they eat flatworms as will lunare wrasse and springieri damsels

Do they look like little gray ovals, sort of attached at one end and hanging in the water, perhaps waving a bit? Those are Neobenedenia flukes. Prazi doesn’t actually kill flukes, it just makes them fall off the fish. However, maybe your dose wasn’t high enough?

yes they are like little gray ovals hanging off at one end. I dosed 7.5 teaspoons based on around 80-85% of my 180g tank? Should I have added more? It looks like they aren’t hanging off of him anymore but he was also scratching some after the dosing.

The “85%” dose is designed to help estimate the net volume of water in a tank where people may not know the actual water volume, it turns out that 85% is good estimate due to rock displacement, etc. if you know the true net water volume, you should dose that at 100%

I don’t know the total volume but I have quite a bit of liverock in my tank.

So my follow up doses it seems there are different opinions on. Do I do 4th day another dose or 7th day after the initial dose? And how many rounds of it three?
Recommended: allow it to work for 8 days, change water and apply one more application lasting 8 days and do add an air stone as Prazi lowers both oxygen and appetite which may be the case or part of it

After my second dose do I need to do a 3rd? I’m fairly confident it was flukes as I could see stuff hanging off the side of my hippo tang and he was scratching after the first dose he looks all healed up already even his scratch marks are pretty much gone. I don’t want to have to deal with this again I’ve read the bacteria make the prazi last less and less in the tank. So my question is do I do a 3rd dose at the 8th day or do I shorten the days for the next doses if necessary?

If needed, you can. The two applications often resolves issue

So I dosed did a second dose 8 days later and was just going to do the 3rd dose but got stuck out of town. If I do my 3rd dose today on the 9th day is it safe to say I should still be good? I saw two fish yawn today idk if it’s just a coincidence or not. No fish a scratching and they all look pretty good but I don’t want to have to deal with this again. So am I good with the 3rd on the 9th day or should I not bother because I messed up the timing?
