Thanks, very interesting comment and thread. Is there a minimum tank size for tangs? I saw above someone recommending an eight foot long tank. So basically the general hobbiest shouldn't have one?

6 foot bare minimum for a Blue Hippo long term (and that's a 6X2X2 180 gallon tank), and 8 foot or larger really is best. Most Tangs need between a 6-8 foot long tank, although there are a few exceptions (ie Kole, Squaretail, Two Spot aka Blue Eye Kole, Tomini and Yellow) and the Yellow IMHO needs a bare minimum of 5 feet.

We have one that we got as the size of a quarter. Now four years later 5”. We had it in a 75 gal and upgraded to 300 gal 6ft. Ours plays nice with all the others even the other 5 tangs and annularis angel but it definitely is the boss of the tank!

I recently got a small hippo (~3in.) and it has already attacked my Royal Gramma (who is longer in charge!) and a starry blenny putting large scars on both!! We’ll how it plays out as time goes by I guess!

@Eldomi88 Well... a lot has changed since this post! I now have 4 kessil A360W's and a T5 mixed lighting system. The T5's are on for 4 hrs and the kessils ramp up from 7am-9pm and never go past 65% intensity...thanks for the flashback though!
