@melypr1985 has had a similar problem with a Hippo Tang that has been in and out of Coppersafe as well. Hopefully this isn't some sort of copper resistant parasite.

I'm going to go pickup some Copper power at switch it out tomorrow! At least that's something that can be ruled out.

Yes it was super annoying. He's still alive and in QT, but I switched him over to a non-medicated tank. His skin is clear now, but he still acts weird. I keep thinking that he's going to die only to be surprised to find him alive and eating the next day. He went through every treatment or trick I know of to do and still nearly died. After I found him doing "the worm" at the bottom of the tank, I switched him to the non medicated tank and am waiting and watching for where the chips will fall.

Be sure to look read the test from the top, not the side.

So I finally understood what you said today when I switched to copperpower and it showed that my dose wasn't enough.

The tube looked very light so there's no way it was 2.5 ppm as the bottle says... well... I was passing by and looked from the top and it was spot on...

So what that means is I was reading the test wrong and was probably severely overdosing Copper.....

So does that mean that the ich and Velvet are for sure gone and those were just stress marks?

I've wondered if that is coming. Tanks getting low level copper in stores to keep disease down could provoke this. After enough time with not therapeutic doses clay cause ick/velvet to become resistant. Much like MRSA or VRSA

I've had this particular fish for about a year, and got it from someone who had it for a year before that. So I don't think that was the issue. I was severely overdosing... I'll bet it was at 4 or worse. So that's why I ask.... is the ich and Velvet dead for sure?! Lol

As long as the levels were above 1.5 ppm for a full 30 days then they should be. He survived it and can now be observed in a non medicated tank for a couple weeks to be sure he's ok.

I'm thinking I'm going to leave him in the copper power under the proper dose for 2 weeks and see.

Correct, under the correct therapeutic level and not over dosed.

You don't want to keep them below therapeutic levels because that can mask symptoms from you. You want to be able to see if anything is still bothering him. You need to either run no copper at all right now or stay at full therapeutic (2ppm).

Well... the Hippo looks good now under the correct dose of copper. No more spots at all.

However my fish that were in the cp treatment are acting funny.

I don't have a pic but their color is not bright, and they appear to possibly have a light case of black ich. Can that survive the CP?

Yes. You'll need prazi for black ich. If you can manage to do a freshwater dip on one of them, you can confirm/rule out black ich and flukes.

I have bad luck with freshwater dips... I'd almost rather just treat them with prazi....

The dilemma is its not a good idea to mix Prazipro with CP. Better to use API General Cure, which contains powder praziquantel plus metro.

I've dosed Prazi and Kanaplex already (saw some fin rot on another fish)

@juicemanatx Do the dark spots ever move on the fish? Turbellarians should slowly crawl over the fish's skin.

A definitive way to tell would be to do a FW dip. Some (but not all) would dislodge after 5 mins in FW.
