I have a some other HiTauing heaters that I use in my water change carboys, my saltwater mixing bin, and in my freshwater tank. The temperature on the controllers is a consistent 2 degrees high compared to a good quality thermometer. Other than that, they are rock solid. I haven't seen any more than one degree temperature fluctuation in the freshwater tank. On the strength of those, I decided to pick up another one for the sump on my reef tank. This one claims to have an intelligent controller, whatever that is. The displayed temperature is dead on compared to another thermometer. I've never seen the temperature vary in the display tank by even a full degree. On to the bad news. When the heater comes on, it emits a high pitched whine. I can't tell if it is some kind of alarm or even if it's coming from the controller. I hate to have to replace it since it works so well, but the reef tank is in my office, so I really can't deal with the noise.

My question is, has anyone had the same experience with one of these heaters? If it's an alarm, is there a way to turn it off? The "manual" that came with it is mostly useless. 90% of it is safety information.

How long have you had the heater? I haven't heard of a heater making a high pitched noise like that before

I got it back in November, but I just got my sump set up in late December. The noise is less noticeable now. It's still working, so I'll let it cook for awhile and see what happens
