i saw videos on how to make an aquaclear 70 filter into a hob refugium and I wanted to do that. But my question was, do I also need an additional filter for mechanical filtration? Or can I use one aquaclear 70 as both a filter and a refugium all in one? Anyone know of any good all in one refugium and filters that hang on the back for a reef tank? Any advice would be appreciated!

IMHO the important thing is the refugium as the macro algae will do more for the tank then mechanical filtration.

But that's just me and my .02

True, I just never had a refugium before, I had a reef tank with a hob filter before with just a simple filter inside, and I wanted to use media like chemi pure blue and others that I found online. So I wondered if that would be possible all in one filter

That will work for a smaller tank. I would use all the filter space for Cheato growth.
