Hey y’all figured I’d post an update. My marine x 35.1 is just a few weeks old and I am already loving the set up. The ATO has made it possible to have an incredibly consistent salinity.
Here is a full

tank photo
As you can see the tank is pretty well seeded with Coral frags for being so new- I do have some cycling going on evidenced by what I believe are diatoms, I wouldn’t have added so much coral during this period if I didn’t have my brother helping me out with frags/colonies. The monti and the Duncan as well as many other coral frags were free to me- pulled from his 270 gallon mixed reef.
Here is what I am doing.
-I have two filter socks on most the time, I put course filter pad on top so I can clean the pad daily(easy) and the socks weekly(pain in the rear). Sometimes I don’t run them after dosing bacteria:phyto:eek:r adding copepods.
-I am doing daily 1-3% water changes for the most part.
-Flow is fairly high with an oversized return pump that turns over the sump 5-10 times an hour. Also an oversized power head(wish I would have gone with two smaller ones) huge increase in flow in display.
-I am running the kessil a360 with a narrow field
-in sump I have a big filter sponge before the return pump. I have a egg crate divider with bioballs on the side that is constantly being aerated and cheto/calerpa on the other side with a FluvalSmart freshwater plant light I already had.
-I have two titanium 100w heaters set up to the ink bird thermostat and also have a duetto ato.
-ill post fuge shots when I stop adjusting everything daily and get my cords organized so I am not totally embarrassed lol
-Rn I am basically obsessed with my tank and feed the fish tiny amounts many times a day
-Total daily feeding/dosing
Approx .5-1 “cube” rods
Tiny pinch of flakes
5ml phyto
Tiny amount reef roids.
5ml microbacter 7

clean up crew
25+ Hermits blue leg and one other variety that’s dark and a bit bigger
1 arrow crab
Two emerald green crabs
Two peppermint shrimp
A few tiny dime sized serpent stars from my brothers tank where they multiply.

I’m definitely looking for feedback/advice from the community. Am I being stupid not running a protein skimmer? I feel my fuge is going to be less than ideal for really growing the macros. There is not a ton of space they are not moving stuck in place by the eggcrate. I am thinking I am gonna add carbon and gfo this weekend to the mechanical filtration in the sump after the water passes the macros.
Thanks for taking the time to look/read.

Update!! Moved the Duncan out this past weekend it was to the point I was needing to move an acro for the third time so i decided to bite the bullet and do the inevitable. I moved it to my brother @Zhubbell larger system in Ohio! I think he would sell it super cheap if anyone is interested (15 plus large heads) dm him.

Great choice with the Waterbox setup. I’m still torn if I’m going with WB or RS for my next build...
I have to admit I am pretty smitten with the wb although idk if I would have bought it myself it was a gift from my brother who was the realtor who sold me my house!
