Not sure how many of you subscribe to @TopShelfAquatics YouTube channel but I was disgusted by their latest video of a 50 gallon tank with waaaaaay too many fish that should never be in that small of a tank.

I couldn't watch more than 2 or 3 minutes as the fish were all sick and I saw at least 2 tangs (possibly 3 or 4) plus a fox face and anthias that all belong in a 4+ foot long tank.

I emplor @TopShelfAquatics to remove this video from their YouTube channel as it is an atrocity to post and talk positively about such a horrible setup that is clear animal abuse.

I used to have the upmost respect for TSA but I am so disappointed that I am not sure if I can support their business and youtube channel any further and hopefully there will be outcry on here and they take the video down for the good of the hobby!!!

Thank you for posting this. I just watched, and agree. . @TopShelfAquatics you did not think this one through! Please take it down instead of giving hobbyists the wrong impression that this is OK. 😢

Here is a link for anyone else who would like to see it

Ya this tank way over stocked both fish and corals. Has 15 corals in like 8 inches. I would use this as example of what not to do with a reef tank.

Disgusting....

I have to say I was shocked . They could have used that as an example of what not to do . Educate that guy and show others how not to overstock your tank . Instead of talking about how amazing the tank was . Coral over packed it will be a disaster when things start to grow out . The fish don’t have no where to swim as it is imagine once the coral grow out . I am disappointed in TSA

100% agree with the sentiment here. This kind of tank should not be showcased. I was so distracted by the cramped tangs and Foxface, and anthias with pop eye that I could barely focus on the coral. Absolute worst reefing video I have seen in quite some time.

The only positive thing about the video is the Comments section 🤣

I can't listen to this video. This person is a collector. He said he tried to find the rarest fish possible and that he doesn't quarantine because he doesn't want to expose himself to 'dangerous' chemicals.

Anyway, I counted 12 fish, and probably only 4 of them would actually be suitable for a 50g tank (and I have some serious doubts about it being 50g)

Candy basslet
Neopercularis hogfish
Oreni tilefish
Spanish flag grouper
Clownfish
Scopas tang
Foxface rabbitfish
Whitetail bristletooth tang
Bellus angelfish
Sixline wrasse
Mandarin dragonet
Anthias

Anything for likes, clicks, subscribes and sales. Make no mistake, people watch these videos and mimic them as perfect examples from the pros.

The owner of the tank.

Right. It only shows that money can buy everything but common sense . When you have 4k in fish but cant name the snail that can right itself ...

I couldn't help myself as I was mortified. I didn't even post the link on purpose to not get them more clicks...

Exactly. The coral placement of all those small 1-2" frags will be a disaster when and if they grow out...
I watch a new one every week. I turned that one off. Nothing to see there folks. I hate seeing fish jammed in like that.
Me too and I'm thinking of unsubscribing because of this video.

Yep! I was at least appreciative that there were ZERO positive comments! I emailed @TopShelfAquatics and messaged them on FB asking them to remove this video as well as this post...

System Expansion: He acknowledges that his current 50-gallon setup is reaching its limit, and he plans to eventually upgrade to a larger, 6-foot peninsula-style tank to better accommodate the needs of his growing fish, such as an Achilles tang (27:34 - 28:39).

That’s insane . It looks smaller than a 50 too. I’ll take their word for it, at 50 that tank is wildly overstocked and a bit sad to watch

I’m so sorry if you didn’t want the link posted!!! I think it is a good thing, though, and will be helpful as it gets more views. Since the clicks are coming from this negative thread it IS getting more clicks, but I think that equals more outrage and opposition and a great teaching experience on why this is so disturbing. You did a good thing!

Hobbyist reef in different ways. As noted above the video, and even this post, is social media...

If any of you are upset at the video just reach out to TSA via their web page, scroll to the bottom, and hit the Email Us link. Let them know what you think and why.
