Energy Saving Tips,

whether you run a chiller, MH, or simply wish to save on electricity bills....

During the Hottest Season of the Year,
Keeping a display tank at proper temp can sometimes be difficult so here are a few tips to consider:

A. Lessen your photo period or break it up to 4hrs in the AM. and 4 in the PM.
(small supplemental coral feeding is advised)

B. Start your photo period after 4 PM.

C. Run a fan across your sump:
(this will use evaporative cooling- and will drop the tank temp.- top off water will need to be increased)

D. Each 3 to 4 wks. run a 2-3 day "Lights Out" Cycle- this imitates summer storms in nature and has an added benefit of reducing algae growth...( small water change after the "lights out cycle" will remove phosphates, and nitrates caused by algae die off)
