I don’t understand how to make a herbie overflow, in my marine front overflow small, to make it less noisy.

I will 3D print one and try it out. I also made a mini strainer in which I drilled holes in the pvc, and then drilled a hole in the cap. Will it be more quiet than that?

No gurgling noises with a herbie setup as the standpipe is a full siphon. The emergency just has a small trickle going down it.
I will make one, but the one I have now with the holes in it, isn’t it basically the same thing? The pvc with holes in it and a cap.

No, that sounds more like a durso. Herbie is completely different. 1 hole is full siphon under water so zero noise controlled with a gate valve to the level of the 2nd hole (emergency drain) so that is just a trickle.

Whenever I try to control the level of water going down it slows down to much and then enters the emergency. Will it be easier with the herbie.

Just to clarify, the herbie is something like this, attached to a small piece of pvc.

No that’s just a snail guard lol. Herbie is two drains. One primary that gets the majority of the flow, and a emergency that handles the flow if the primary gets clogged. You can tune the primary drain with a good gate valve to make it near silent.

So I already have a herbie? I just have a marine depot overflow box.

Did you read the article in post #2?
That article is so thorough I have a hard time understanding you have these questions.

I have a ball valve on mine and highly recommend you get a gate valve. Luckily, I have an Asahi ball valve, so it works fine. Just can take a while to dial in at times.
