I keep 3 pre-filters around and switch them out when I change my filter socks. I am referring to the return pump pre-filter

I current wash the filter socks in the washing machine using bleach only with an extra cycle to rinse and then dry completely.

For the pre-filter, the washer tears them up. So, I have been soaking in white vinegar diluted with RODI. I rinse before each use.

I am not convinced all of the organic material breaks down in the 3-4 days they sit in the solution.

How does everyone clean their pre-filter material?

When I took care of a tank with one, I would swoosh it around in water during a water change. I ended up not using the sink as it was a haven for amphipods.

No concerns with washing socks with bleach? Even with extra rinse cycle?
