With the year coming to a close in just a few weeks, I feel like some of us reflect on this year and see how our tank have done. I am wondering, how has your tank done this year? Would you say it has had tremendous growth? Setbacks? Maybe you started a brand-new tank this year. Curious to see what everyone says!

I did start a new tank and couldn't be happier. some of the coral came out of my aptaisia infested failed tank, but everything else is new.

Life got in the way again. I was able to get water into it but realized my ATO container wasn’t going to work long term so had to stop and fix that. Once the fix was in place, life hit and I haven’t restarted. I’m hoping with time off for the holidays I can get up the will to restart the system.

Its been a challenging year with a complete restart but the fish are doing well and corals are now finally going back in bit by bit. Its been a year of learning as well!

Heres a picture from this morning - including glare from the outside! You're welcome :face-with-tears-of-joy:

May 2024 be a year less troublesome.

I'd say you're a wee bit modest using the word "okay" to describe that progress ;) Well done!

I started a new tank this year after exiting the hobby in 2019 saying I wouldn't return lol. I took things super slow, the rock in my tank cured in the QT room for 7 months before going in my tank. Initial setup July 2023

I intend to fully stock the tank with LPS within the next 3-4 months and add fish next summer. So far there are 8 hammers, 5 frogspawn, a Goni, a Fiji yellow leather, and a few cyphastrea in there.

Growth and setbacks.

I did a replacement of some mushroom covered rocks earlier in the year that triggered cyano growth. I have yet to kick it and currently I have GHA coming back.

I have been skipping water changes due to other projects throughout the year and I may need a boost of my CUC and probably a good vac of my sand.

Although most of my corals seem to be doing well, new favites have grown. I did have some polyp loss on one established hammer, the remaining polyps seem strong.

Tank doing great this year! Parameters locked in all corals growing, fish happy! Added some SPS and ventured into my first few Acros. Very pleased.

Well, I'm stripping one down and restarting it, soooo. That could be considered good or bad! :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:
(My first attempt as a barebottom tank on the horizon)

I started an Evo13.5 near Jan and a Pico tank in September and I have to say, the pico tank has been my favorite of the year. Some issues with the Evo gave me ups and downs, but the pico has been a tiny dream on my desk.

This is year 5 of trying to get a thriving sps reef.

I was able to do it when I was younger with live rock. But dry has made this the worst 5 year journey ever.

This is year 5 and the first year I lost no corals no fish.
I have learned that some corals I just can’t keep and I do not replace them.

My list of temporary corals are:
Elegance…..about 6-12 months.
Scollies….about 8-14 months.
Long tentacles Plates…..about 5 months.
Trachies…..a year best.
Millipora about 2 years.
Don’t know if it’s me, or them.
LFS says not me, some corals just don’t do well in captivity.
That’s why there’s sales right!
Nice.

On the good side I have hammers, fogs, Duncan’s, clams, looms that are now 5 years old.
