How does a coral become a Tyree coral? Im sure he obvi farms it but do people give him corals to do this? lol

Sort of, from what I understand, if a vendor has a coral that is awesome they send a frag or two to tyree, I think he then makes sure it keeps its color and puts his name on it if its "worthy". I'm sure someone can more acurrately explain.

Steve Tyree farms many seeds of certain awesome specimens from several coral vendors in his system and evaluates its growth, color, etc. The ones with the most rare and unique characteristics will be Tyree LE. Other sites have their own LE (Limited Edition) pieces also I believe. Look at some of the amazing Tyree LE pieces he has brought to reef hobbyists already. I have personally picked up a few pieces from Steve. He is a really cool person to deal with, very friendly.

He also gets to go to the whoesalers before most shops can get in.
Which allows him the chance to find the real unique/rare corals.

You don't have to be a vendor, you can be a hobbyist as well and get your coral to be a Tyree LE ;)

My understanding is that Steve Tyree thing is a history. Their standard has been lower and lower. I no longer get excited when they introduce new stuffs. I don't see a point to send him a free frag and beg him to put his name on it. :squigglemouth:

Thats a matter of opinion. If you like Tyree LE stuff buy it, if not DONT. If you like SC stuff buy it, if not DONT. If you like WWC stuff buy it, if not DONT. Its pretty simple! Lets not turn this into a bashing Tyree thread.

IT is an interesting way to keep things "premium" but it is fun to watch the trends ebb and flow :P
