Tank I bought came with a lot of pulsing xenia. Id just get rid of it buy wife loves it. So I put it all on an island towards the front of my tank as I thought it would contain it. I am now finding little stalks of xenia on rocks 12"+ from the island. Do they pinch off and float around or could these be left overs I missed when I set up the rock

Yep, they break pieces off and float around until it grabs something to colonize on.

I think it depends on the species. I've had big clumps for years that never did that, or even spread very fast.

That sucks I thought I could isolate them
Yea so did I. I tried the island and even the glass. Eventually they will get over crowded and stressed and some will release themselves for a better spot on the reef.

Now that your wife has her tank, you need to get one for yourself? ;)
