How hardy is a BTA?

Just realized I’ve got a hitchhiker RBTA on the Caribsea Live Rock I purchased from the LFS. I just setup my Biocube 32 with 40 pounds of Caribsea Life Rock with 20 pounds of Fiji Pink live sand. I’m running purigen, chemi pure elite, Seachem matrix, reef spec carbon, along with a filter pad. I have a hygger mini wave maker 2600 GPH set at 80% at constant flow mainly throughout the day with a couple cycles on wave maker mode. I used Dr. Tim’s one and only to quick cycle the tank, all my levels are reading at 0. I have a pair of Frostbite Clowns, Midas Blenny, and a Diamond Goby. I’ve yet to get a cleanup crew but plan to on Friday, with getting snails, crabs and a cleaner shrimp. How hardy are BTA’s? Should I be concerned? Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!

Did you run a full cycle of dr. Tim’s, where you added ammonia or did you use fish to cycle for a month? It is not recommended to add any anemones to such a new system but it can be done with proper monitoring and adjustments.

I used the fish as my ammonia source. It’s only been up for a week and the RBTA came on the rock I purchased from the LFS. Unbeknownst to me and the store. It’s such a beautiful anemone and I’ll do everything I can to make sure it’s a success.

Alright, Ive been here before. It’s going to take a lot of monitoring. First off, find out if any stores near you sells nitrate and phosphate. This is going to be very important. You’re also going to need to monitor the main water parameters everyday and be able to make adjustments and recheck after adjustments. Do you have test kits and if so which ones.

This tank was started with the same rocks that the nem was living on before(correct?), if so it cycled and ready to go. Just give it a month or 2 before adding more fish. I imagine it going just fine if you pay attention and don't do anything crazy while learning to maintain the tank and handling whatever pops up. Does it look happy now? Post pics

I’ll try and get some photos and post them. It came on the rock I bought, I won’t add any more fish and I only plan on adding a flame angel fish next as my last addition and possibly something smaller but not sure.

You need to locate nitrate and phosphate asap.
Also your kit will suffice but you will need to also get a phosphate test and dkh test. I highly recommend the Hanna checker ppm phosphate ULR.
In fact I recommend all Hanna checkers except the magnesium one. If these are out of your price range then I’d recommend salifert.
For nitrate and phosphate I recommend and use nyos.
When you have acquired these let me know and I’ll walk you through it. For now do not add anything else to your tank. No clean up crew or fish.
Rinse the chemipure bag and put it back in its container and I would use only in emergencies.

You are welcome and no problem. I’d love to see you succeed at keeping your nem alive and to have it thrive. Also, for your wave maker you will need to attach a net or foam fiber wrap around it in case your nem wants to take a swim around the tank. Those propellers will shred him up to bits if he gets sucked through them .

My wavemaker came with this mesh like material that wraps around it. Will that suffice as good enough protection for the anemone? I’ll get a photo of it to show you. I’m going to head to the LFS tomorrow to purchase those things, if not I’ll order online.

Very hardy in my experience. I would not be overly worried since you used live rock and the tank is cycled.

That looks good. Also what are your current parameters that you can check for at? What temp and salinity too? How long are you running the light and at what percentage?

I just ran another test, nitrite 0 ammonia 0 nitrate 10, ph 7.8/8. Salinity is 1.024 and temperature is 75 degrees. I have my blues on for 12 hours and then all lights on for 8 hours at full percentage. It’s the Biocube LED 32 and it has 3 channels. Channel 3 (Blue Lights is on for 12 hours. Channels 1 & 2 are on for 8 hours.

Everything sounds decent to me except your salinity. Some people do run it that low but the problem you’ll run in to is lower calcium and ph levels that are not optimal unless you dose.
I recommend to Slowly bring up your salinity to 1.026. And keep it there. Are you using RODI water?

Only using RODI water from the LFS (they use Fritz) and I just ordered a 5 stage RODI Typhoon from Air, Water & Ice. I will be using Reef Crystals since their numbers are so good. I’ll be sure to slowly bring my salinity up.
