I would actually think the opposite. I think the Caulerpas are more likely to struggle with a blackout. The reds are usually pretty bulletproof.
Oh interesting…I just had assumed caulerpa would be fine but to be honest that was not based on anything other then the fact that they grow super fast. How long would you say macro in general would last in a blackout? I do expect die off. I just don’t want to kill it totally.
Honestly, for most Caulerpas I wouldn't want it to last more than 24 hours. Not to say that longer wouldn't work, but Caulerpa can be tetchy. For reds, I think you could go as long as you need.
Thank you for the info that helps a lot! Any other ideas for ridding cyano in the tank with the macro? I can’t really suction it out because it sucks up the macro every time I try to get some out. I also know it will eventually go away but I don’t want it to smother the macro.

I know I'm late, but i wouldn't do it. Some macros will be fine, but caulerpa will not be amused and will probably die. From what I've experienced and seen, cyano is often a part of a healthy macro tank. Hell, I've wven seen a lot of cool macros in the wild, but when i got them out of the water they often had hair algae or cyano. You can start dosing less, remove manually, increase flow and light, but i wouldn't do a blackout. After stabilizing, the ecosystem often becomes inhospitable to cyano. I had severe cyano problems, but realised i dosed too much
I haven’t tried the blackout, and don’t really plan on it after reading all this. I am just sorta waiting it out. I will try the PNSB like you suggested. I just have to get to my lfs to get some which I haven’t been able to do yet.
