How many breaks have you taken from the Aquarium hobby?

I've had 2 breaks from my first aquarium, spanning about 15 years.

I constitute a break as a period of any length above a few months (so not just moving a tank, etc), where you have no aquariums running at all.

2008 - Started fresh, then salt.

2016 - Started back into fresh.

2023 - Started back into salt.

None yet! Plenty of mistakes since starting in 2017 though; none cruel enough to put me off... yet!

Early nineties salt water reefs
2005 Took a brake food on the table for my family and a roof to live under
2021 salt water again but only nano tanks no more large tanks and empty pockets lol
And loving it more than ever know great hobby for tinkering and watching for hours

I had one break, but not by choice. I started reefing in 2005 with a 110 tall tank and a retrofit highbay mh fixture. In 2006 I had to get out, because work was very light and I could no longer afford to keep the tank running. Fast forward to 2018, I realized I was finally home everyday, as my new job allowed, and I remembered my long lost love for the ocean, and reef tanks. Five years later, I am all in and consider reefing a main part of who I am.

None, ever. I've had low-interest period where I've just let the tanks run themselves without other intervention than topping off (usually from stress and drama in life), but never actually broken with the hobby since i started in 05.

I took one very long break. I started up my first tank around 2006 and then shut it down after moving out of state about three or four years later. I didn’t come back to the hobby till 2020 when i started up my current tank.

none since 2010 but have learned so much I feel new to the hobby constantly.

Problem with me is the build is more fun for me then keeping it . I get bored and take a break to plan a new build but my current build I plan to keep till I quit I think

Started hobby in 1998 out in 2003.
Back in 2019... never leave again...

Sadly after about 20 years I'm in the only one I've ever had now and that's only because we are in the process of moving!! YIKES! I miss corals and fish so bad!!!

I've been fish keeping since 1980. I had multiple fresh and salt tanks going until 1987 when I went to college.

Break one... although in 1988 I had a freshwater native tank going occasionally and a tropical tank the parents looked over. First serious saltwater FO around 1990 until 1992.

Break two, seasonal employment country wide from 1992 to 1996. I did manage a few short term freshwater tanks occasionally.

I started reefing in 2000 and have kept something going since then.
