I was also the AMA president of the club I flew at in New Mexico.

Presently, I have a Losi 22 Buggy, HPI Savage 4.6, Some glow & electric planes and a couple smaller blade helis, most run off of 2200mah LiPo 3S batteries.

I used to compete and flew regularly. But life turned a corner (got older) and now I’m just fiddling. To many other irons in the fire.

150mph? you gotta post a pic of this. 1/4 scale? When i use to be in the hobby 25+ yrs ago 1/4 scale stock cars were popular and expensive. Think they basically ran a weedwacker engine, bot sure how they.worked the transmisssion aspect. It may have just been a roller chain to a solid back axel.

It’s actually 1/7th scale. Arrma limitless. It’s the one that looks kind of like an F1 car in my original pics. Of course you can make a traxxas slash go 170mph too. YouTube Phillip jolley.

Lipo's, and brushless motors have certainly changed the RC hobby. Cheaper startup costs, no smelly nitro to deal with, the motors seems to last longer without any tweaking, and specially with flying, the noise is way lower.

While I've never really played with RC cars, I would imagine those super fast cars are just direct drives right from the motor to the wheels, no gear box.

Oh trust me... I did things backwards. I learned to fly helis solo. I was stationed in Germany at the time and TT Raptors were all I could find. I bought a trainer plane and soloed it by my self. Everything I had learned with Heli’s made planes easy. Also I had Real Flight version 1 for my computer.

I crashed the Raptor probably 4 times. When I was doing much better I splattered a Scedu. That thing was a total, broke the head off the engine. Every servo busted.. it was a horrible expensive loss. Also very disheartening, took me several months before I flew again.

The place I flew the trainer plane had high power electrical wires near by and of course I clipped one. On my wedding anniversary the wife was with me for this. We spent several hours looking for it, it went down in a corn field and the corn was right near harvest height.

Yep, got more crash stories too. All said, I would say I have crashed 9 helis All repairable except two. 7 airplanes and all airframes where a total loss.

I actually still use Real Flight (ver 8) to help keep muscle memory on the odd day I’ll fly for fun on the PC.

Sadly, I truly believe Xboxes and play stations killed the RC hobby. Youth today would rather play video games than go outside.

Mostly cars here... I've tried to get into planes and drones, but its just not my thing apparently.

I think in the garage now are:

• Traxxas 2WD Slash (at least two of these... maybe three)
• Traxxas 4WD Slash (setup for 100+ mph)
• Traxxas Rustler
• Traxxas Stampede (three of these - one for concrete bashing at the skate park, one for backyard stuff and one for speed runs)
• Arrma Mojave
• Traxxas Revo mini
• Traxxas Grave Digger Mini
• Traxxas Aton

Mostly the parts can be used interchangeably ( for the most part) so its easier to stick with a single brand than hop all over the place.

I fly at Sun Valley Fliers, at Cave Creek & Jomax, in north phoenix. I've heard of speed world and been there for drag races, but never flown out there.

Nice, I’ve been out to SVF several times to watch and sold some gear at one of their sales. Speedworld is a fragment of what it once was. When the county closed it everything died out. The flying club took 2 years to get it back open. Next time you plan to take out your giant, message me. I’ll try to come out. I have seriously considered a 30-35% plane. If a nice used one came up, I might consider it.

rc has commanded a very large portion of my life but nowadays im down to a few models and spend my time working drone angles on them. for example, as soon as I can find a free way to download a utube video off an old profile, my emaxx uses 72 mhz control and the rx is two 72mhz antennas soldered together for double length (half wave of 72, that's one big boy ha nice)... propped up by a seven foot tall flexible whip and some wire still wraps at the end but that level height is enough to punch deeply through forest and structure. That was the most signal penetrating arrangement I could find in 4 years continual work on distance for control and vid...72 mhz ground control forgive me for the signal law infraction to get there. no other models are harmed in the process testing assured. hardly anyone on 72 anyway its all frsky and dxspektrum 2.4


for vtx, 900 mhz 1 watt amp + patch antenna array at home lets me leave my own neighborhood while driving on the bigscreen tv. I think ten blocks is my current record

the only hobby more fun than micro droning is micro reefing
the second application is you take the rig to jeep trails and go up an entire mountain. I have hiked a long, long long ways to turn the rig back over thats for sure. always wanted a remote-righting arm. ground-based drone control is so dang hard I just love the science.

Wow, thats amazing. I have a 4WD yokomo YZ-10, it was sold by associated, their big seller was the RC-10 probably 25 yrs ago. There was nothing like that around then. There were a few companies making rail drag cars, think they topped off at around 110, and i think it cost a ton of money to get that

Always loved rc, never got into it till a year or two back, I got into fpv drone flying and I love it. Built my own, have an emax hawk 5 and a moskito 70 tiny whoop. Not the best pilot but been practicing on and off. Fpv is awesome and I love watching content creators such as Johnnyfpv, le drib, nurkfpv, uav futures

I mean if you just want to go 100mph and that's it you can buy a traxxas slash 4x4, gut it and put in a 250 dollar ESC motor combo from castle. New spur and pinion and you will have a 100mph car. Probably need to change shock springs and get some weight in the front end. New body so it doesn't turn into a plane, and yes it will trust me I know from experience. Probably around 750 plus whatever 6s battery or pair of 3s batteries you want to run. If you want a 150 mph car its probably more like 1200 plus batteries.
