I don’t remember really but I do know that it was a 120 gallon Top Fin tank from PetSmart. In other words, it didn’t cost very much.

If we’re talking about my first tank ever almost 30 years ago then not very much. I was poor and couldn’t afford much. I probably didn’t spend more than a few hundred dollars.
If we’re considering my current tank that I got when I got back into the hobby I have no idea and don’t want to know. I do know that a few years ago I spent $10,000 on tank stuff in a year, because my wife is very quick to remind me of that.

My first tank was free. I was probably 6 years old. 30 gallon with a slate bottom.

First reef tank was a 36 x 24 x 24 AGA. Bought the entire set up used for 400 dollars. Skimmer. Sump. Pumps. Rock. Heater. Everything. And it all worked.

I'm not even going to talk about the cost of my current set up. I don't even know myself.

300 for 75g tank, stand, sump with built in protein skimmer, return pump, 2 sets of lights, a 4 bulb pc, and 4 t5 bulb fixture, weak af sicce powerhead, 100lbs of live rock and the sand.

But I upgraded to a 30g fishtank for a sump that ran me $50 for the tank and baffles/silicone. Upgraded the skimmer to a reef octopus 110int used for $140, got some free jebao powerheads from a reefer leaving the hobby, got a dc return pump for $110, then got a hydros setup for about $800 total. Then bought my own sand instead of using theirs.

$150 on hannah testkit bundle from BRS and a refractometer.

This was everything I had by the time the first fish went in.

So my 75g was $850 initially if you don't include the hydros.
