65 gallon tank with sump 3 years old. easy around 10k for everything for this tank alone(not my first tank). Sadly I lost 3k in coral and another 1k in fish just last year during a tank crash(all my fault) starting to stock it back this year but no where near as fast.

Lol...I don't really want to know how much your Tank Setup Cost...I am finding it comedy gold at this point

Since setting up my 1st ever Mixed Reef Tank it goes as follows:

Oh Wow...that is Awesome, Your Tank is Amazing, Oh Wow...look at that fish..Oh wow...what is this coral? Would you look at That!! Plus at least 5 other pleasantries ....always followed up with...

HOW MUCH DID IT COST?? :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I always tell them...if you really want to know, don't Ask, and if you are interested, Toss your Budget into the Abyss!

Never Fails!

I end with how much does it cost to view the Magnificence of God's Creation? We severely underpaid!
Mods please delete this thread. Too many wives are being hit with domestic charges and a handful have caught a murder 1 since this went up.

I note down everything I spend on my hobbies - in an encrypted spreadsheet the trouble and strife will never get to see.

In 15 months, my reef tank has cost approx. 4% of what I've spent on my boat.

Sadly I’m tearing down my 40 Breeder right now. I made a hardware list and checked retail prices. Over 8K. Watch for market place ads! Lol

We saw the 180 at a LFS in another state. I said Id love to have it, but how would we get it home? She said to measure the car.
So I came back alone and got it the next day.
Married 40 years in June.
Choose wisely.

Anybody else have other hobbies besides reefing?
Yes! I also collect bourbon/whiskey, agave spirits and some yak. Another expensive hobby and wormhole to venture down.

To answer the question on cost, somewhere between the price tag of a hot tub and a vehicle.

I think the only thing I didn’t cheap out on was lights lol , 160$ each and I paid for 4. Everything else in the tank is second hand or traded for mostly - 75/90 gallon tank I traded some corals for, sump I acquired through trading a YT I had after the Hawaii ban, most livestock was from hitch hiking / trading / 10-20$ frags with fellow reefers. Most expensive “coral” is my purple LTA at 100$. Budget is possible but needed some luck and good people as well

If we were adding up the cost of all my hobbies including reefing we’re looking at multiple mortgages!! Lol

I have four motorcycles from 70s-90s, five guitars, banjo, mandolin and I love malt whisky and beer. Then there's the model kits and jigsaws. And a bit of astronomy which is not a great hobby in the cloudy UK. But I still love my reef despite a catastrophe on Saturday which seems to have killed half the fish. And I'll be back!!!!
