Anyone know how much iodine is toxic to a reef tank or causes problems? Most people talk about too little, but my ICP shows I'm 5 times recommended. I've been dosing 5ml a week on 120 gallons of a LPS tank.

What ICP company, what does it say exactly, and are you dosing any?

ATI, Iodine 257.8 ug/l. Reference value is annotated as 58.1 ug/l. I've been dosing 5ml of Brightwells Iodide once a week. Looks like it's been too much. Curious what level would be considered toxic.

Why not stop dosing it and see what happens?

Better yet why did you start dosing it? ICP recommendation? What was it previously? Not sure I'd dose it daily in any case if at all.

I don't think the toxicity level can be given as a single number because it takes at least two different primary forms in seawater (iodide and iodate) that have different toxicity and different organisms will have different thresholds for toxicity.

I think that value is not high enough to be a serious problem, but I'd stop dosing it.

Yeah, going to stop. I just got the ICP results back today. First test on the tank. I was dosing weekly for the benefit of zoanthids since it's regularly repeated that iodine doesn't hang around long in a tank.

Ok, thanks for the help. You're a great asset to the forum.
