I've never blown my rocks. I never noticed detritus build up on them. My flow and CUC seem to be enough. Will try it during next water change just to see how much detritus there is

Once a year I stir up my entire tank all the way down to the bottom if I could using a diatom filter. I make a typhoon. Then I blow off the rocks. But beside that, there is nothing on my rocks to blow off.

If you are like me you will be surprised. I couldn't see any detritus but when I used the turkey baster the first time I was amazed at what happened!

Once a week with a turkey baster, generally right before a water change.

WOW, this thread is so wrong!
What exactly are we talking about here?! :gossip: :twitch:
wow! I'm glad it's not just me. When I just saw the title of this thread I had to click. Then when I got through pg 1 and not one comment I thought I really need to go to to church tomorrow. Thank you d2mini. I still can't stop laughing!

You can't have to many of these. :jaw:

I blow my rocks off every night before i go to bed and was wondering if this was beneficial or not. Ive heard its good to on occasion but is every night excessive? Should i let the live rock do its job and not blow them off for a few weeks, months...ever?
Ain't nobody got time fo dat! LOL

Every water change....which is every other week (If I'm lazy) or weekly if I stay on top of it. It is a quick blow off with Turkey baster...nothing major

Last year I had a daily routine of basting and siphoning detritus daily. This would result in about a 500 ml of what looks like wet skimmate. After a month of this, my system became too lean, corals were starting to bleach, and I decided to stop. So now I only do it when my nutrients start to creep up, about once every 2-3 weeks.
