Every other day. I run nothing but filter socks, no fancy BS needed. Corals grow great. Fish are very happy.

I only use them after I clean off rocks or sand bed. Usually lasts 3-4 days.

Otherwise everything just Dino's into a chamber with chaeto.

Don’t use them, but when I do it’s during a heavy feeding followed by a cleaning and water change.

If you don’t change it every 3-4 days, whatever it catches starts to break down and re-enter the water column.

I have been sock less on on my systems for years. The only draw back is having to slightly clean the sump a couple of times a year

Agree. That’s when I enjoy taking the shop vac to the sump!

When I was using mine it was every 3 days. Stopped using them daily about a month ago. Now I just use them after water changes or when I have company coming over and my goby is kicking up sand

I never used any mechanical filteration in the past. My new system has sock holders and I have filter socks for it but the tank has only been running for 2 weeks almost and have not really decided how often I will use them. I think I will use them for a week or 2 at a time every few months to polish the water or when needing to remove suspended waste. I plan to change them out every couple days when in use.

It depends on a number of factors: what size are the filters, how many micron will they filter, how much water passes through them and how dirty is the water. For my current tank I use two 7" x 16" felt filters that I change once a week, sometimes a little longer if I'm busy.

Hmm, I know I used them for about 48 hours after the tank move to clear up the water but that's about it.

I change my socks every day.

I change my filter socks when they overflow unless I am trying to raise nitrates. Then I may leave them for a week or two hoping they start to become nitrate factories.
