How should I proceed with my Triton Refugium?

Well due to the off the charts p04 from the deteriorating cheato and the fact that the cheato overtook all other macros but one kind, I did a full reset and installed an egg crate divider.
Cheato in the back, other macros up front. Need to get more macros again.

Oh wow. looks good. But isn't the algae supposed to die off?
That's what they say.
I guess I was expecting the stuff at the bottom to slowly die while the stuff up top continued to grow. More of an unnoticeable evolution.
Instead I seemed to be experiencing more of a complete chaeto crash.
Triton also recommends various other macros but mine had all be consumed by the chaeto.

Maybe the triton guys can chime in.

I forgot if you said this already, but are you running a phosphate removing media? Or just relying on the algae?
For now I'm using HC GFO mixed with Rox Carbon.
Would like to get off the GFO all together like I did with my previous tank.
