I need to find a way to completely dry out this tubing to sterilize a fish parasite.

Is there a way?

If not, I’d have to run bleach through it, but I’d like to avoid it if possible.

hair dryer?
or hang it out side I bet the sun is out down there in Miami.
how soon do you need it?

I have been wondering the same with my WC hoses I store it on the basement so it never fully drys out but once it spring here in a month or two I hope to hang it out side.

Thank you, guys!

I just hung it outside in the sun. I’m skeptical that evaporation will happen in a pretty enclosed tube, but it won’t hurt to try.

I have an electric, high-powered air compressor that I can use.

The tube is for a fish QT, but I used it in the tank before adding copper; I don’t want to add potential ich when I change their water.

Isopropyl. It will kill anything and it will evaporate out.
How would I add it? Do I just pore it and swirl it around while holding both ends? Not a bad idea.

I'd be concerned it may damage some types of tubing by dissolving out additives.

Ich can't survive freezing so I just throw tubing into a chest freezer for a few days.

Dude that’s genius. You win. Thank you so much.

Icy dies after three days of no fish to host. In a tank that is in working order that is.

Well, I had freshwater ich in mind. I read a paper where they had trouble conducting experiments because they couldn't easily preserve specimens for future use.

But a quick search for marine ich mentions freezing of samples so I dunno...

The mechanism for surviving desiccation and freezing should be the same but maybe not.

@Jay Hemdal

Can you give suggestions? Can the freezer work? I think my big one is set to -9F? I’d appreciate your feedback.

In regards to ich dying after 3 days with no host, does the tubing make it hypoxic, which delays ich for up to 72 days?

First and foremost, for cheaper materials like that, we have one set per system so we don’t need to sterilize it….nets, vinyl tubing, tank scrapers and buckets.

For more expensive, non metallic items we use a 1:10 bleach solution, soak for a few minutes then drain. We rinse with tap water prior to use. This will corrode some metals though.

I don’t like dessication because residual salt is hydroscopic. I don’t know about heat or cold.

I used the tubing prior to adding the copper to the QT tank.

Now the fish have been in copper for a week. Is it not a problem to use that same tubing to change out the water and add fresh 2.5ppm copper water?

Rinse it with ethanol, use a vacuum cleaner to remove remaining fumes
