How to frag an encrusting coral?

When i want to frag my chalices and monti how do you do it if its encrusted on a rock? Can you use the coral clippers under water?

Well with the monti, I would say experiment with a razor blade. They come off pretty easily. Slice it like pizza or cake. The chalice, I'm not too sure.

actually noe that you say that i saw on youtube you can frag a chalice with a brand new razor blade because they have a fragile skeleton, but dont you ave to dip them in iodine after fragging?

You dont have to but it helps clean the cut. Some people have better results w/out dipping.

if half of the chalice stayed on the rock and the other half popped off could i put iodine in a turkey baster and spray it on the coral, or would that harf the aqaurium?

Im pretty sure you would want to do "dip" the coral in a container and give it time to soak(3-5 min). If you just spray it in your tank its not really going to be able to clean the coral.

And yes you can use coral cutters inside of your tank. Just make sure you rinse them off before you use to remove any oils that may be on the blades.

ok and iodine isnt a must have it just helps the healing process?

If it's in your tank and already encrusted, your best option is to get a disposable hand saw and hack it out.
