Hybrid Leopard Wrasse

Hi,
I wanted to show everyone my new Hybrid Leopard wrasse. I received it from NY Aquatic last week. The hybrid is being classified as a cross of Vivian’s/Splendid (Macropharyngodon vivienae/bipartitus). NY Aquatic told me that the last time a hybrid was caught was in 2017 and imported to Hong Kong and that this is the first one to the USA. If anyone knows otherwise please let me know.

It came in amazing health, ate right away and has been a voracious eater ever since. Looks very similar to the one that was caught in 2017 so i’m assuming it’s the same two species. Looking forward to see how it grows as it’s small and i’m assuming it’s a still a female. I will keep this thread updated if anything changes. Here a few pics from today:

I’m happy you had a good experience w him. I’ve seen the warehouse in person for every healthy fish there are 2 dead. Keep a close eye over the next week or so especially if it was wild caught may take longer to show and the cooler levels are well above normal. I will leave it there, I wish ny experience was as smooth as yours

Used him for some time and he sold the fish I bought refused refund and sold sick dussemeri (spelling) on place after I specifically requested not that one. First time in 5 years I had a delayed infection after quarantine and it wasn’t good ol ich it was uronema and it killed my entire tank. Devastated. When I ordered from him online in past all seemed ok but when I went to the warehouse in Yonkers. Totally different story if you’re local see for your own eyes. And check copper levels on any fish bought. It’s 3x uln when I ordered a random damsel to check a suspicion

But I’m glad she’s pretty and healthy. That’s the important part

I pick up all my fish from him as I’m less than an hour away. 50+ fish. No issues. While the warehouse isn’t pretty I don’t see widespread death the you mention. He keeps low level copper but not therapeutic levels. Most fish stores do this as well unless they QT.

I know stores for this but i don’t normally get a 3x uln measured on different devices with same results. Maybe he cleaned up the systems. This was awhile ago but he put me off his store forever and it was a shame too bc the times I ordered blindly it was fine.

I saw this on their site. So cool you bought it and are posting the journey. Also love your Chaoti leopard. I'll pick one up from NYAquatics at some point. I've been happy with the two orders I've made with them.

What do you mean by 3x ULN? What is that in ppm?

So 3x ULN is 3 x the highest standard dose. It masks diseases longer especially if it’s wild caught fish. To those who disbelieve it’s fine eventually you will get burned. Leopards don’t change spots. It’s just how much are you willing to loose. I can tell you I have the info and photos when I was in warehouse that he illegally imports yellow tangs. All this because he sold a shark I bought and he charged me and then sold the shark to someone else. Would not refund me instead made me pick other fish when I was hesitant after see 2 dead for every one. The uronema that enters my tank despite quarantine and medicated treatment was refractory to everything bc he dosed the copper so high that the organism was able to survive what should have eradicated it. I literally had that fish get a necropsy by the aquarists near me who hold a degree in fish science. In total my stable tank of 4 years failed and I lost over 8000 in my fish alone. He also sent me a threatening email and decided to ‘donate a partial refund’ after fish and wildlife were involved that’s to my LFS over a wild Hawaiian freshly caught and dead with uronema. He donated it in his name and got a tax right off. I still have all the proof of this angel of a guy. He’s been on the fish and wildlife life list for some time. I guess I should thank the store owner by me for going over my head and reporting him.

What do you mean by 3x ULN? What is that in ppm?

On Hanna and api test it’s from 2.0-2.5 ppm the uln would be 2.5 in this range. When tested it from two different specimens bags bc my gut was off my Hanna was reading in the range of nine so actually over 3x the api visual was maybe a shade off lower. The value for 3x uln is 7.5 ppm
