I predict zero long term bad effects based on the sum number of posts from 2010 till now (perx hit big at that time in tank/reef/pond management) in fresh and saltwater



and I predict a waning effect over time in the ability to control suspended or anchored algae. No harm happens, a tolerance to peroxide from the targets happen and growback work requires moving on to the next experiment.



it’s not harmful to use it as you have been. If it quits working, boost up designs around the pond, increase water column exchange, cause surface boil offgassing with better circulation, focus on uv filtration and shade controls for the pond if possible. They make partial covers and various ways to offer helpful shading to full on sun ponds, certain fast growing trees and shrubs are used in home garden builds we see etc


it would be fun to experiment with phosphate controls in pond algae management depending on gallonage of pond.

Je suis allé dans un centre d'accueil aujourd'hui pour acheter de l'algicide pour mon bassin et l'ingrédient principal était du peroxyde d'hydrogène 15,00 $ pour une pinte. Remettez-le immédiatement car un litre de peroxyde d'hydrogène est de 0,99. J'ai donc mis 100 ml dans mon bassin aujourd'hui. En attendant de voir quels sont les résultats. Au cours des 20 dernières années, j'ai dépensé une petite fortune en algicide. N'importe qui d'autre essaie ça. Je suppose que cela ne nuira pas à l'étang qui contient des plantes et des poissons rouges

Ton bassin est peut-être trop au soleil, l'eau devient trop chaude et un surplus d'algue se développe. J'en ai un a l'extérieur, cette été, L'eau a été plus froid et je n'ai pas eu d'algue contrairement aux autres étés.

I recently added a 50g static media and a 50g moving media filter to my 700g above ground pond. It has done wonders for my water clarity and algae control this summer.

Don’t know what a media filter is. However it seems to me you have more plants than my pond. Plan to get more next year the greenhouses are out now. I have trouble with my fish eating the plants but have found a few that can live through it

For those of you battling the algae......are you running a UV? I do in my pond for the last 15 years....seems to keep the majority of it under control.

see how there's no bad huge tufts of growth on the rocks, it's truly kind of just a suspended greenwater challenge


I think that's really ideal to have as a challenge, and in no way does it look too organically loaded that's pre filtered and not heavily stocked, with center turnover, side shading and top shading

ponds will always carry some organic loading, I was referring to 10 inches of literal mud piled in some ponds based on flow and storage/maintenance habits

that above is just about perfect in every way.


you really ought to consider UV on it, although installing hardware looking like that sure detracts from the setup above. its just about a perfect pond there anyone would love to have.

Yes I have in the past however I took it offline just seemed that the bulbs did not last long and trying to solve the issue more naturally. By naturally I mean bacteria, plants and water changes which was doing satisfactorly until the heatwave in July

Do you do any water changes? I can't tell you how many people with ponds only top off the water but never actually change some of it out. By not doing so you get both nitrate and phosphate (usually sources from the fish food) levels rising....both the string algae love. Usually at least 4 to 6 times a year I'd change out at least 25% of the pond water.

Girls are literally pulling Thier hair out through hydrogen peroxide. its great for a quick dip to remove algae on my islands of GSP and candy cane... Yet to try firework clover.
In UK it's behind counter stuff 6% about £3... Apparently great for teeth and gums

Thanks Brandon429 have been considering uv but decided to try more plants next year. Although have thought about uv because I have a canister filter with uv in the garage however still trying to do it naturally although have failed miserably which is why I went to buy algaecide and was surprised to read that the main ingredient was hydrogen peroxide

Personally, I have never used any algaecide. Just the UV in my 2200 gal pond. You could set up your UV canister and just take a stream off your filter area and put right back in.

Oceancowboy water changes are debated even in pond upkeep. Over the many years of battling algae and talking to people and reading the internet and you tube videos one of the advice given was no water changes. When I tried that method the pond went from pea soup to green mud. Now water changes every one or two weeks of over 50%

Ocean cowboy that is a possibility although that would take some work plus it would reguire another pump and some hose. The main issue for me is that I keep dreaming that I can do this naturally

Today did not dose hydrogen peroxide and the pond looked pretty good this morning however this evening the algae is back but can still see the fish. After giving this a lot of thought will look into an uv light. The downside of the light is I live on the side of a mountain and the digging is very hard

Everything from here on out will have to be under the unnatural cure approach, as that’s a fully balanced body of water by natural standards

we don’t get crystal clear lakes and ponds and that’s about as clear as we’d ever expect above, but I know by aquarium standards we look to mimic clear-as-glass water and there’s no harm in reaching for it.

one other thing to consider is pond color dyes that also slow / absorb light penetration those dyes are specifically used to combat green water trials.

Thanks for your help brandon429 have tried dyes in the past and they can make a pond look pretty good however with the amount that I used did not do much for algae. Checked an online store yesterday and found a statue uv spitter which would mean a lot less digging. Although the price was pretty high. What you said about lakes and natural ponds makes sense
