They make DC to DC converters you can use to get the 24v up to the other voltages but it would be a DIY project and you would still have the converter box. I guess I got lucky my MP10's are 24v.
Year later, how do you like your mp10s and the kraken? I was almost sold on the kraken until I realized my kessil is 48v, but I’m still tempted.

I have had the MP10's for years. The Kraken is quite helpful with all my controllers. At the tank I have three controllers that have their own power supply but with the Kraken I replace those three supplies with the Kraken by connecting each of them to a force port on the Kraken. I have all but one of the force ports in use and two of the 4 drive ports in use on the Kraken.

I am glad to help out. I have been using Hydros now for 3 years but I added to it slowly over time. The collective makes it easy to add to your controllers as you get more experience and want it to do more functions with it. Just choose a controller that has the ports that you need to do what you want to do and add it into the collective. Since the controllers are daisy chained all together they do not use wifi for communication between the controllers in a collective. A collective does require 2 terminators and enough command bus cables to connect all the controllers together. There are 2 types of command bus cables one with data and power and one with data only. If the length is over 14ft for the cable you would use data only. You would have to have a source of power on both ends though. The XD, X10, XP8 and Kraken all provide power to the bus. There is also a power pack that can connect directly to the bus if needed but with it there has to be a data only cable between it and any other source of power. These supplies come with the starter kits with the X2, X3, X4 and XS. A better choice now would be the Pro Packs since they come with either an X3 or X4 and a XP8 with a command bus cable and 2 terminators. I believe they also come with a temp sensor and a pH probe. The wifi strips will stay in whatever state they are in until wifi communications is restored. I use drive ports and the built in pumps on the X10 for all my dosing, ATO and AWC. I have used the wifi strips for heaters, return and skimmer but the heaters have their own thermostats as backups. Now that the XP8 is out those are on the XP8 now. I still use the wifi strips for non critical uses and testing things when I try different setups. Also Hydros has a facebook group here https://m.facebook.com/groups/hydrosgroup/?ref=share and they also have a forum here https://forum.coralvuehydros.com/ .
Would you consider using 150w heaters on the WiFi bar (four outlet)? And maybe a kessil 48v ap9x light?

I’m thinking of getting the kraken, but then I have these left out (already have the WiFi bar not in use).

A 150 watt heater should be ok on the wifi outputs as long as it has it's own thermostat for backup turn off. The wifi outlets will stay in whatever state they are in if communications is lost between the controller and the wifi strip. So if the output is on it will stay on until communications is restored. The Kraken only has 8 24v DC and 4 12v DC outputs. It has no AC outputs on it. The AC outputs are only on the XP8 and Launch other than the wifi power strips.

I am looking to possibly make the jump over to Hydros. The thought of less power strips and better cable management is very appealing.
How compatible is the system with Tunze products,Abyzz returns and Kessil lighting?? That would be a ton of bricks out of my system

The force ports are 24v when on AC power and that drops to 12v when running on a battery. It also has 4 drive ports which are 12v ports. So you can supply anything that uses those 2 voltages as long as then current draw is less than the per port max current or the total current is less than the total current for either all the force ports together or the total current for all the drive ports. Also several of the Hydros controllers do require a 24v power supply. Those include the X10, XD, Waver engines and Sole. Those can be provided with a force port for each one you have of those.

Can you hook up the cyber power ups to the kraken? Curious. My cyber power has 4 batteries.

The Kraken is designed to use 12v gel cell type batteries and has a built in charger for that type of battery. If you plug it into a UPS it would not know there was a power failure since the drop from 24v DC to 12v DC triggers the low power mode in the Hydros controller. So any source of 24v DC on the bus would keep the collective from going into low power mode. So even plugging in a XP8 into a UPS would keep the collective from entering low power mode. You can use a 0-10v input to trigger it instead but that would require some DIY.

Hey, I bought a used mp40.. it has a slight buzz sound - is that normal? It doesn’t feel like it’s vibrating but I can hear it. And feels a smidge warm running half speed. Just trying to determine if this is expected or it’s on its way out.

Not normal, but not uncommon. Mine are dead quiet. When I do experience noise,it’s usually an alignment issue.

These mp40s are easy to take apart and clean, so maybe try to take your wet side apart and soak in some citric acid and clean it good and see if that alleviates the humming you are hearing after ensuring your wet side and dry side are aligned.

I guess someone beat me to answering this. I have the MP10's which are smaller and I do not hear a lot of sound from them. Just make sure they are clean and aligned correctly between the dry side and the wet side. If that is off they can get louder.

How off aligned are you guys talking about? It’s used but brand new to me, as in I just put it in a few days ago & it was cleaned well then. I thought I had it lined up perfect.

I got them from a pretty knowledgeable source, at a stellar deal for $175. And it definitely works but I feel like I can hear the propeller more than I hear my water baffled in my sump. It’s not terrible but I wasn’t sure if it should be silent. They’re aligned right but the wet side pad for the glass is a like a mm or two off, like it doesn’t come off but it’s the plastic is only 98% covered - I thought they would be more of a issue for the glass scratching.

I have a brand new mp10 I haven’t set up yet, but when I saw that one it was like too good not to get. Now I’m debating if it can be fixed.

The alignment we are talking about is between the dry side and the wet side in the tank. If one is off a little from the other it will cause noise.

So I can be a mm off and it’ll upset it? I was thinking like a 1/4”.. I think I’m pretty aligned but I will try, thank you

You should be able to make small side to side adjustments to the wet side while it’s running to stop the vibrating and noise. And to find the sweet spot. Just don’t remove/break the magnetic connection or it’s likely not going to realign without powering off first.

How thick is your glass? And are you running any kind of spacer or just the gasket?

If all else fails, reach out to ecotech support. They have been great to work with and surprisingly fairly priced for all non-warranty repairs.

Good luck.

I tried that today, still hear it.. I’ll have to listen in the morning; I remember him letting me hear the dry end before I bought it, I don’t think I heard anything so maybe I just need to replace the wetside? Probly try out my mp10 that’s new before buying anything else tho, maybe it’s just normal? But I definitely hear the propelar.

When you take your wet side apart, what does your ceramic sleeve look like? Is it attached to the base or does it look like the photo where it’s stuck in the propeller? If it’s like the photo and stuck in the propeller, then you just need the wet side “frame”

the frame is about 1/3 the cost of a new wetside.

I got a full line of hydros controllers with XS, X10/iV, XP8, wave engine, and kraken. It is in the video on my build thread. The kraken runs the wave engine which runs my maxspect XF 350s. The kraken also runs my redsea reef wave and 3 jebao SOW4s in the sump. also my sump redsea LED50 light. During power outage only the 2 XF 350s run and the jebao SOW4 in the sump frag area. I had a recent power outage and it worked for several hours. Not sure how long it would run but it gives the power company time to fix the issue and me time to get the generator out. I am really loving the hydros platform thus far.
I have read some conflicting info online.
You had no issue connecting Redsea products to the Kraken (without modification)?

It will depend on watts/Hz used for the device. I use the smaller reef waves 25 fine. I cannot run MP40s for example. The power for those is too high.
