I was getting ready to pull the trigger on a Minnow for my current collective. They collective consists of an X2, an X4, a WaveEngine v2 and an XP8. I was looking at the minnow because I only need 2 dosing heads to meet the needs of this tank, but I want better control than the regular dumb dosers can provide. I have ATO, temp, and AWC setup, plus pH and ORP probes connected and a variety of controlled outlets (heater, etc). Even so, I still have open ports for future additions

Then I got to thinking about it... The Minnow costs $275, and the Blenny costs $430. That's a $155 difference. For that $155, you get 2 more dosing heads and 2 more Drive ports. Now, I don't currently have a need for the 2 extra dosing heads, but I got to thinking... if I had those 2 Drive ports, I could actually move everything currently connected to my X2 over to the Blenny and free up the X2 for "other things" (second tank temp and ATO, really). The the extra $155 for the Blenny is still a cheaper option than buying the Minnow ($275) and, eventually another X2 ($190).

So is my math mathing? The current tank is my first and only (so far) "controlled" system. I can certainly see how things can snowball, though.

Also the Blenny drive ports are 1.5 amp each port or a total of 3 amps. The X2 drive ports are only 1 amp each and a total of 1.5 amps. The reason they can make them with more current s because the Blenny has a power input port and that powers the dosing pumps and drive ports instead of the command bus powering them. It does require you to hook up that power supply to power the Blenny.

Yeah there's always an initial cost to these devices for the box, PCB, etc. Then adding on more ports and pumps usually is less of an incremental cost since the base cost is usually larger. Hence why you see the Blenny being a better value over the Minnow.
