Is the clown tang being aggressive yet? I've had one and he was the most beautiful fish but he became so aggressive I really couldn't wait to get him out.

I lost him due to velvet I had to go through a 7 week fallow period and lost half my fish :(
My clown tang was the nicest fish in my tank! Would swim up and eat out of my hand and protect all the other tangs when I was working wetside. Loved that fish and miss it!

Still thinking mp40!

But I finally achieve what I think is an amazing aquascape, and I didn’t even use glue! Took me 3 attempts and a lot of balancing to creat Maximum stability! I now have an overhang! Let me know what you guys think! First pic is what I did last night and came home to. I decided it still wasn’t doing it for me and played jenga to get what I have now :)

Ps no more standing on buckets! I got step ladder haha

Going to try and update this thing as much as possible, The tanks responding really well to the kalk! Even my anemones love it!
Also bond is an amazing product, I think I will be using that stuff from now on... I am currently running vibrant to clear out the rest of my nucance algae’s.

Oh I’ve got plenty of par 2x kessil 160s that I’ve got peaking at 85% and 4bulb t5Ho with ATI bulbs :) I’ve had my stuff for years and the anemone for over 4. Great sps growth and color. I’ll stop the gfo, I most likely won’t add fertilizers or anything of that nature as my fish load is pretty high already and I feed a lot!
Check out my build thread and we can chat more about it there! Don’t want to hijack the OPs thread :)

Do you know what peak lux or PAR levels that gives you at the surface? It does sound like a lot.

"A lot" dictates a need for higher nutrient levels....check out Is the coral-algae symbiosis really ‘mutually beneficial’ for the partners?

As mentioned earlier in the thread above, anemones are phosphate pigs....check out Phosphate Excretion by Anemonefish and Uptake by Giant Sea Anemones: Demand Outstrips Supply

So consider those papers.

Putting the anemone under conditions of deprivation, where he's competing with a large refugium of macro algae AND a tank full of happily growing corals and you're basically tweaking a known sensitivity/weakness.

I think the behavior you see around recharging the carbon/gfo reactor is related to the nutrient conditions and this peculiar need that anemones seem to have. (Not so peculiar when relative body mass is considered, I bet...anemones are huge-beyond-HUGE polyps.)

(Anemones aren't SPS. Nor are they macro algae. Consider all three as competitors. :))

BTW, adding a little potassium phosphate to maintain a minimal PO4 levels (≥ 0.03 ppm) would be the next thing I'd try if simply taking your GFO offline isn't enough.

If I didn't see positive results (ie. no more weird behavior), then also dosing potassium nitrate to maintain a minimal level of NO3 (≥ 5 ppm) would be the next thing I'd try.

Dosing fertilizer is not something I'd worry over, BTW. It's something that's very direct and precise with almost no room for causing problems. A simple tool (a nutrient) with a simple goal. Putting a GFO reactor on a tank and removing nutrients is far more risky, speaking generally, but you and others do it all the time.

A nice side effect of replete nutrients should be the disappearance of the random algae you seem to get in the sand.....maybe green cyano? Healthy micro algae and/or coraline should be able to replace it.

(I've seen rose BTA's grow to half the size of your tank in about the same amount of years, so the relatively small size of yours is also testament to the low-low nutrient levels. This is probably not a totally bad thing since nobody really wants a tank-sized anemone. :D)

I mean it’s 14 inches fully opened up right now? I wouldn’t consider it small :) I purchased the anemone pretty dang small about the size of a tangerine! But also not noted here she has split and she went through a pump a couple of times! That’s why she’s not tank sized! I’ve seen them get that big as well. Not doubting that at all.

I am working on getting my nutrients up without shocking the system, slow changes for me as I don’t want to harm my sps yet again, tank move was stressful enough! From the begging of the thread! Tanks finally cooperating with inputs and new fish load. All good info guys! Getting my nutrients stable at the desired levels will be the next conundrum to tackle!

U right that she's bigger than I thought, she's folded up a bit in the photo I was looking at. Not as bad, but still. ;) ;)
Haha no worries! :) The clowns also might look small but that female percula is 5+ inches! Kinda hard to get a good representation of the actual size of the anemone, it’s pretty difficult actually. In person the thing looks like it’s the size of the whole tank that’s why I had to isolate it to it’s own island!

Without a doubt I need to get this nutrient thing dialed in ASAP! So I’m all ears for the best ways to go about that!
