Sweet! The contrasting colors on the base are really nice.

It is a nice coral but you really cant expect much when ordering wild corals IMO.....go in expecting the worse (that it browns out or might RTN) and than if it turns out to be hardy and coloruful, you just beat the odds IMO and won the lotery.

I think you should be able to expect a coral wild or not to look like the pic if it is sold as WYSIWYG. I dont normaly order wild corals allmost all of my corals are tank grown. And I agree that its a gamble with a wild sps. I have it in a quarantine tank with no other coral. It will stay there for around 2 months. If it looks good and the color comes back it will go into my frag tank and then a month or so after that it will go into the new display tank.

True.....maybe it browned out in shipping...but probably browned out before than...and probably an exaggerated pic to start. So ya that's not really right.

I think at one time it looked like the pic that they posted, but that might only be a few hours after unpacking it.

I have been doing this a while and you start to learn what coral species come in what colors. I think your coral is really nice. Hopefully it makes it, but honestly I wouldnt say they missrepresented the coral. If I had ordered it from them and got the coral you got I would have been expecting it to look like it does. Given some time it could recover; but unfortunately I think the best thing to do with a wild coral that size is to frag it if it continues to fade. I have had a much better success fragging tables and growing them back out than trying to keep growing a wild colony that's browning out.

I don't think they misrepresented the piece at all. I got a very similar piece from them. It came in looking just like that. Shipping can take it's toll.

Here is mine not to long after I first got it (still looking better then it did after shipping)

and this is 3 months later (after fragging). Fast grower, good colours mount it high

In my experience with orders from them, the corals never look the same as what they post, but I think their pictures are taken under HEAVY actinics of some sort.

However, I still REALLY like that acropora, pink coloration is just as sweet as red imo.

Also, the base of the colony in your picture looks a lot cooler than what I saw when it was up for sale. Could you post a picture of the base?

I live near there facility and go there many times a year. There photo section is just a very shallow bin with sand and metal halides. No form or actinic at all. Just 2 halides, but im not sure if there 250 or 400wattt but the site normally says wattage and color temp or bulbs, even sometime what brand bulb.

I think you're going to have trouble getting the original color running AB Specials...those bulbs wash out color so badly..
