Hello All,
I humbly thank everyone in advance for answering my dumb questions. So all my life I wanted a really cool reef tank, now 50, I finally have the courage and money to buy one. A really nice couple in my town were moving out of state, sadly parted their prized reef tank to me for a really good deal. The set up is a Red Sea Max e170 tank (45gallons), with everything established with corals and fish. The owners did not give me any instructions to care for these fragile pets beside don’t over feed. I’m so nervous and think I’m going to kill them all soon .

To answer your question,
What kind of coral did you get?
You’re going to need to get test kits to start testing water parameters (get Red Sea, salifert, or Hanna’s)

Welcome, As Grumbles said, start a thread in New Aquariums. When you do, add WHITE LIGHT pictures, any of your test kit results (and brand of kits), what type of water (tap, RODI) and anything else you can think of.

There are a lot of VERY smart and experienced people on here, all very willing to help you succeed. The more info you provide, the more they can help!

Your best approach is to keep things simple. In a tank that size, faithful, weekly 20% water changes will be enough to maintain chemistry stability while offering you an opportunity to export excessive nutrients and replenish elements consumed by the tank.

If this was a healthy, thriving tank for the couple from whom you purchased the tank, you know that you have all you need for continued success with the equipment you have.

You will read a lot about additives, gizmos and gadgets here (and on other forums). For the most part, those recommendations are valid and credible. And this is why I strongly urge you to consult with the people here before going to a local fish store for guidance.

As an example, if you have algae issues in your tank, there is much you can try to get it under control, such as reduced lighting intensity and duration. Go to a local fish store with the same problem and they quickly pull products off the shelf to add to your tank. I personally suggest that you avoid adding product to the tank until you get some experience and understand the chemistry of the hobby.

Please post questions and then post some more! I'd rather see you succeed than post a thread in six months indicating you're getting out of the hobby for lack of success.
