I made an Actinic Flashlight

I made an Actinic Flashlight.

I took a Mini Maglite Clone and drilled out the
center of the reflector with a 13/64 drill bit.

I then replaced the bulb with a Blue LED from
a string of Philips Blue LED Christmas Lights.

Put it back together and I have an actinic flashlight.

It's not superbright but it works great for checking
the colors of corals etc (just turn the room lights off).

Easy and it took under 5 minutes to make.

Same here. I have my LED flashlight and use my Red lense and look at the corals at night. Totally wicked colors it produces. I'm sure you'll enjoy the colors you get!

Interesting.....

I wish I had fome details on the LED I used because
the spectrum seems perfect for showing off the colors.

I made it for checking the colors in my frag tank.

Agree.


The UV produces a very bright green florescent effect on a majority of corals. No matter what the color may be under an actintic... its GREEN under the UV. Even plain mushrooms and what not will be GREEN.

Don't get me wrong, it LOOKS cool but is not true actintic spec.
