I need some help!!!

My frag tank has been having some issues with the zoas not opening lately.

I thought the issue was a bacterial bloom so I added a uv light. (My tanks been cycled and I’ve tested)

Anyway now my levels are all over the pace and this explains why my zoas are no opening, I figured something was up when I moved 5 frags to my main tank and they looked gorgeous the next day.

Alk is 10.4
Phos .40
Nitrate is 59.2
Amonia is 0
Nitrite is 5.0ppm

I have no idea how this is even possible

How do I fix this I’m stumped.

Phosphate and nitrate are too high and out of balance. Do some water changes to gradual bring phosphates down to around .2 or lower and nitrates to 20 or lower. Zoas will close when chemistry gets to extremes or when it changes rapidly.

What else is in the frag system besides frags?

I have to guess rocks and fish, and the fish are being fed too much ( over time) so nutrients are rising.

Nitrite/nitrate measurements using what test kits?

I use the Hanna checkers, there’s rock and one fish. I think I may have used way too much reef roids, I was doing this to raise phosphate.

I just ab plus on my main tank. So I tried that and reef roids to raise the phosphate because it was 0 and zoas like phosphate. I think I had to have over did it. I suppose water changes is the best way to fix it?

With nitrite being 5ppm that will throw off any nitrate test by a lot. How long has this tank been set up? How much reef roids did you use? Seems weird you have a nitrite reading at all. If this is actually happening your cycle is not "complete" 5 ppm of nitrite is a lot, to have that high of a reading you dont have the bacterial population to process it. Either the population hasnt grown enough yet like tank being very new or you overwhelmed your biological filter with pollutants dumped way to much organics (food) in.
