I will add, @WallyB I really like the Turbinaria you have as well. It really looks and grows like a Montipora in my opinion. How would you rate its growth? Slow, fast, somewhere in between? Thanks.
Tubinaria is EXTREMLY Slow. Hasn't grown much in last 3-4 years, considering it is really Healthy and increasing Polyps.
So get one exactly the size you want, since you shouldn't expect much more.
Maybe it has grown a bit. Hard to tell unless I dig through past photos.
All my other monti's (plating) have grown more in 2 months that my Tubinaria in 2 years.

Interesting, that sounds right up my tank’s alley.

Hmm....brings back memories.

I had and still have a Convict (moved to permanent Sump Cleanup duty).
A Cowrie snail.
He was in my Tank doing great Algae work. Probably for a 2-3 months.
One day, I was glanced at my tank late evening when lights were on dim.
He was shaving all of polyps off my SPS.
I gave him a 2nd chance, thinking it may have been just him cleaning off algae I couldn't see.
But next time I put a timelapse camera with Night vision on tank.
He did it again, and that was his last day in the tank.

(CONSIDER GETTING A CHEAP Night Vision Recoding camera to watch them).

He is what you may see. (good and bad Snails)

I learned later reading about specific speicies "TIGER Cowrie snail" , that their recommended food (IS CORALS). Which is the Cowrie I have.

But in your case Trochus and Turbo's are not the same.
Maybe you tank is lacking Algae and that Frag had a dusting. They are starved.

Why don't you put in some Nori (sea weed) which I do to feed my Starving Emerald Crabs.
Once they taste the stuff, they may leaving your SPS alone. They might need the food regularly.
Another alternative is Spiralina tablets.

Funny thing, I put in a sheet just that night and it was picked clean in the morning! Yes, they have worked through almost all of the algae in the tank and the Nori will be a regular thing. I was considering once a week, but perhaps twice a week will be needed. That video is great. Most of my snails, especially the Ceriths, get really active at night.

I'm starting to get tufts of algae around on the rocks and my snails aren't keeping up anymore. Guess I need to look into getting some more...

I added the six Turbos and a couple more Trochus and in a week I was almost all clear of algae.

I have seen the Beach Bum in person and the glow is unreal. Here is an example of the M. capitata. It branches a bit, but the “skin” has some great nodules as well. It is definitely odd which is why I like it!

Wow. That is nice. Great Contrast on the Polyp. I want one. But have no more room.

Just don't get too many. They will Starve, die, or do what their are doing to Caveman's SPS.

But if you want a quick Solution for An Alage OUTBREAK.

Get an "Algae BEAST"

Few years ago I did, when I had a major Hair Algae Outbreak.

Here is a Before and After Shot of a Infested Rock I pulled out of DT, into a Smaller Tank to Observe him on Timelapse Camera.

43807154380_59707337ae_b.jpg

Rock dropped in Evening. Next Morning it was almost cleaned off. (12 hour period)
(NO it wasn't the Ninja Star Snail you see in right hand photo. He was polishing off the remainder).

IT WAS THIS BEAST.

A Sea Hare. (Time lapse is about 2 hours)
But they don't live long, unless you Feed them Ton's. They also crap like horses, polluting your tank.

BEST THING I EVER DID for one of my tanks is one of these.

A Lawnmover Blenny. I have had one for a few years. Photo of him after DAILY pruning my Tank of Algae. (Full tummy)
Great thing about them, unlike snails....Is when they run out of Algae, they will eat Flake, Pellets, so stay Alive.

Well, that is a great question. Two times a week seemed reasonable to me, but was completely arbitrary. You are correct though, if they wiped it clean, why not try it daily and see if that pace keeps up. Better to start daily and pull back as needed than to start slow and they starve.

Thank you for suggesting!

Can you put a Lawnmower in with a canary though?
What is a Canary? I never thought they were harmful to any other fish since it's a Detrivore, but does eat a lot of algae (even my Turf algae when there isn't anything else).

Feed as much as is consumed. Stuff is cheap.
So long as it doesn't break apart an float around polluting tank.
I use a Gourmet Grazer Nori Feeder.

Not a spec is ever wasted.

I can't find the thread, but there is a guy who swears Nori Waste produced by Fish consuming it, it very beneficial to tank nutrients.

Canary Blenny. Says you can't keep 2 of the same species. But then I guess a lawnmower isn't the same species... hmmmm might have another new fish soon :)

I use that same Innovative Marine Gourmet Grazer. Works awesome. Keeps it all together. And I do not have to put my hand in the tank. Just slide the magnet.
