Tank build is in this area.

Quick break down:
180 display
300 total volume

Flow:
1 Tunze 6105
1 Vortech MP60

Mostly SPS Acros

I feel like adding another powerhead will give me additional and more varied/random flow.

I like the Gyre powerheads but not that they are not APEX ready.

I can not add another MP60 because the display was built as a peninsula. That would be ideal.

I could install one or two more Tunze?

Thoughts?

it kinda is a bummer the gyre isnt apex ready, but i love mine. The gyre would put more laminar flow in your tank, moves a whole lot of water if thats what your trying to achieve. Otherwise i would buy another tunze.

I think any of those options would be fine. My personal experience with reef tanks is that there is no such thing as too much flow just misapplications of flow.

If you have an apex why not go with the wavs? I added 2 to my 180 display alongside my 2x mp40s and love that I did. I keep the wavs up high so there is very little wire in the water.

I love LOVE the flow of a Gyre. However since I've already have a Tunze 0-10V cable with a spare (open) line I think Tunze is the best choice.

Still I'm not sure that will do it. The MP60 does a great job on it's 1/2-2/3s of the display. So awhile back I added the Tunze to get the very end of the display where the overflow is. This works and there is flow all over but I think more would be better.

So right now the MP60 is mounted at the far end of the overflow. The Tunze 6105 is 2' from it pointed at the overflow. What if I put two 6105s on the overflow end toward the MP60, and cross the flows from both to meet in the middle half? I am afraid that all the flow will be at the far end with the MP60. That's why I'm considering the Gyre because I know for fact it will hit the end of the tank where the overflow is and hit it hard.

Or, keep the current powerheads where they are(MP60 far end, 6105 2' from it pointed toward overflow) and add a second 6105 that will cross the other 6105 flow in the end of the tank across from the MP60?

If you add the IceCap module, the Gyre becomes "Apex Ready".

(Or so I understand - I've not pulled the trigger on getting those set up on my system.)

I don't think they are compatible with the new 200 series pumps.

I did consider before I purchased the first Tunze. Maybe I should look at them again. If I did go with WAV I would get the full kit and that surely should cure all my flow issues, hopefully.

Neptune WAV Starter Kit:

Thoughts,

My tank is <2" from the wall so I will be installing both pumps on the back of the tank and angled toward the center.

With these wide flow type pumps keeping them close to where the flow is needed is key and that's exactly what I'm going to do. Really like the APEX Fusion apps and control with the WAV. Install seems easy, clean, and minimum.

The MP60 will be kept so that it can push water to the overflow.

Not apex controllable, but I love the jeboa powerheads. Great wavemaking solution if you're on a budget

They are apex controllable, I used to run pp-15 off the apex

You need the jebao-apex cable and that plugs into the variable ports on the apex
