T1s have 24 DS0s in them each DSO can carry one voice call, or, all 24 used together can push about 1.5 megabit/second. They used to charge about $3k/mo for dedicated T1s. When LTE came out, some mobile network providers were reluctant to embrace fiber optic and the ip stack and instead opted for "bonded" T1s. In order to support the bandwidth necessary for LTE/broadband one site i know of had 12 bonded T1s... so their one cell site cost $36k/mo just for connectivity.
