Ich? Velvet? Something else?

I don't see anything wrong, but would watch for velvet. It may not show much symptoms, is the fish breathing hard? Hiding from light?

If not, I wouldn't worry, personally.

so here's the deal. I still don't see anything wrong with this fish BUT.. Infections are usually secondary to something else.. ie: ich, flukes, velvet ect. The first step is to figure out what is causing the infection (if that's what this is). So the freshwater dip would hopefully confirm or rule out flukes and we could go from there for a diagnosis. Up to you to do this.

Followed your advise and did water change and freshwater ro/di dip. These came off. In your video you suggested prazipro. Very new so would melafix work or should I run out tomorrow and get this stuff. Doubt my local fish store has it. Hate petco but if they have it great. I put him back in the dt because while I have a qt it's not fully operational. Will this stuff ruin my coral/future corals?

Wow, that's a good find! Looks suspect to me, praziquantel will take care of it most likely, melafix won't do anything but make your skimmer go crazy and create foam in the tank.

They're one of the least-worst pests out there and one of the easiest to treat.

Do what @melypr1985 says for treatment to keep it simple, but you might even kick these things just by repeated freshwater dips (*really prefer tap water as it's buffered....YMMV I guess.*) and increase feed RATE and increased feed QUALITY. They're that least-worst. :)

You can dose prazipro in the display. The flashing is from the flukes bothering him, so hopefully when you address the flukes, the flashing and infection will stop. Follow the instructions on the bottle and dose once, then wait 5-7 days to do a water change and dose again. The second dose is very important to catch the newly hatched baby flukes.

You are very welcome. You should have a little time to spare, especially after the freshwater dip. But you don't want to wait longer than that.

Orange-back wrasse like this guy are a favorite fish for me, too. He does look like he could use some good eats, as mcarroll suggested - a high-quality frozen blend like LRS or Rod's Food would doubtless be deeply appreciated. With some of those worms out of his gills, his appetite is likely to pick up, too.

Meredith is that kind of reefer. You learn real fast that she's one of the ones you listen to.

And double-check that ammonia.

I purchased another ammonia test kit tonight for piece of mind. Also I've been feeding frozen brine and omega one marine pellets alternating every other day. That's what my lfs recommended originally. Would you suggest only the brine for now? The ammonia spike may have been because we had a family member feed the fish over the holiday weekend while the family was away. Maybe some over feeding?


She does have great taste I'm baffled why she chose me.

Brine is a bit like a diet of celery, iceberg lettuce and popcorn ... it'll fill him up, but there isn't much there.

LFSs recommend what's on their shelves, and sometimes that's also what's best for your fish ... but sometimes it's not. Something like LRS (Larry's Reef Services - a sponsor here at R2R), which contains a mixture of many different meaty and algae-based foods, will provide much more complete nutrition: http://www.larrysreefservices.com/ For myself, I rotate through over a dozen different frozen foods, including the occasional whole littleneck clam, as well as pellets and flakes, and nori. (Yes, my orange-back wrasse will rip into the nori right along with my kole tang and flame angel!)

NLS is a great pellet! I use it myself, and my fish enjoy it - though some like to let it soften before picking it up.

She obviously saw something you might have missed . . . (~_^)

Wow, flukes for sure. All good advice given, prazi is easy and effective.

Just want to add, to make sure you double check your dosage. Wrasses do fine with prazi but are reportedly sensitive to overdosing. I've never had an issue by following the directions on the bottle, but just as a heads-up [emoji108]
